  1. Dear Jo Yong, Traditionally, Accounting and Finance are considered - metal element. This was because, these occupations dealth with Chinese money i.e. in the past were made of metal i.e. coins. Nowadays, because Accounting and Finance are now quite complexed e.g. involved different processess and multi-skilling e.g. computing etc... one may have to further look at one's job process further. Warmest Regards, Cecil
  2. Dear Anon, It is a common practice for Chinese to place figurines of Gods and deities facing `outwards' rather than inwards into a home. The rationale is the belief that e.g. it would not be appropriate for a altar to face a bedroom or a toilet or other `rooms'. This is because, e.g. bedrooms are considered `dirty' locations e.g. the place where some of us change our clothes... marriage couples induldge in intimacies etc... It is thus considered not appropriate for these figurines to face `inwards' into the home. Warmest Regards, Cecil
  3. Dear Spring, 1. The next best alternative is to ensure that the tree is properly trimmed since you are unable to cut it down. 2. Trimming the tree would help to reduce the `floor area' of the tree `foot print'. By doing so, will ensure that that sector is no longer too yin. 3. Trees are actually Yang. But because of the shadow that it casts below, it can create a too yin environment especially at the frontage of the home. 4. I am not sure what the three symbols are. Usually, the most common of the three symbols are the Fu (Prosperity) Lu (Luck) Shou (Longevity) symbols. 5. You can view the following pictures under this URL to see if they are similar to your three symbols:- http://www.geomancy.net/mypictures/cgi-bin/imagesearch.cgi?img=0&search=shou&cat=all&x=29&y=3 6. Under Traditional Chinese; we tend to display e.g. the figurines from Right to Left. This is similar to the way our Chinese books are printed also i.e. right to left. Thus, when we display the Fu Lu Shou symbol, it is displayed (FROM RIGHT) FU , (MIDDLE) LU and (LEFT) SHOU. Here, you should be facing the above figurines and placing them from right to left. Similiarly, the three symbols (characters) should be displayed the same i.e. (Your Left - Shou) Middle - Lu and (Right Fu). In the west, one can still leave LU at the middle and place Shou at the right and Fu at the left.. which I believe is still OK. Warmest Regards, Cecil
  4. Dear Laura, 1. Many users also faced similar problems such as you and your partner. 2. Under the Eight House concept, one partner can still sleep closer to the `intangible force' and the other partner sleep on the other side. (Using the partner as a shield). 3. In my personal opinion, weightage should firstly be given to the layout of the room based on Shapes and Form techniques. For example the bed should be against the wall. When one opens the bedroom door, the bed should be on the opposite wall e.g. facing the door. 4. I am glad you find this site interesting. For those who are new here can look at photo tours e.g. caricatures to have a better understanding of FS i.e. Traditional FS as opposed to "Others". Alternatively, one can use the Search button in this forum to search the over more than 3,800 messages in this forum i.e. nearly any subject related to Feng Shui. Warmest Regards, Cecil
  5. Dear Nancy, 1. Feng Shui (on its own is about enhancing one's Earth luck). 2. In addition to Feng Shui there are other disciplines such as Pillars of Destiny that maps one's Heaven luck. 3. Overall, "Feng Shui" is a holistic approach. Feng Shui on it's own has also several concepts such as Shapes and Forms and Compass School methods: Eight House and Flying Star. 4. Thus if one is only a "passer-by" of Feng Shui can have a quantum leap just by having good Shapes and Form Feng Shui. 5. For example, the external site and house is appropriately suited. Secondly, the interior of the house, has good Shapes and Form such as the placement of the bed based on this theory. 6. As a "passer-by" one can use the Eight House Tool to check on the suitability of the home. 7. Above this, are more serious FS tools and Pillars of Destiny. 8. Therefore, the level in which one wants to `turn' to Feng Shui / Destiny readings depends on each individual and their level of participation. 9. In my opinion, if your life is smooth going especially in your new home, you can give Para 8 a miss. Wishing you and your fiance all the Best! Warmest Regards, Cecil
  6. Dear Anon, I am afraid, in general, Traditional Feng Shui does not look at "wealth corner(s)". Usually, when we talk about "wealth corner", it would imply something that is `fixed' such as based on fixed template. This is considered too general to be of any use for anyone. Therefore, hope u can understand that such things are not discussed here as they are not based on traditional FS. More likely a `gimmick'. Warmest Regards, Cecil
  7. Dear Anon, 1. There is free report under www.geomancy-online.com where you can generate a free Comparision report which will provide you information of the `binding' element for both spouses. 2. For example, after the analysis, you get to know which element helps to bind a couple. Here, in the bedroom, one can e.g. paint the room/wall the colour to suits both parties. 3. In traditional FS, element strength is crucial in providing the correct binding element i.e. weak-weak; weak-strong; strong-strong; such combinations give different results. Warmest Regards, Cecil
  8. Dear Laura, I believe there was this debate sometime back where some Australian, FS enthusiasts and FS practitioners `introduced' or reversed the Ba Gua as you mentioned such as SE etc... So far, such `claims' have been reduced significantly. As many FS concepts are based on the Five Elements concept, Yin and Yang, these are not affected by whether it is North or South hemisphere. Overall, or so far, no one was able to refute the current FS model. Cavet emptor... (let the buyer beware) to those who believe that FS models should be reversed for the Southern hemisphere. So far, in my personal experience having looked at many (many) cases particulary for Australia, I sincerely believe that the current FS model should not be changed. Warmest Regards, Cecil
  9. Dear Susan, 1. To the Chinese, the toad and frog symbolises the moon. 2. Usually, the Chinese do not `differentiate' the toad or the frog (as in general they are considered the `same'. 3. As the Chinese cultivate rice (rice fields); toads and frogs are common as they thrive under wet fields. 4. Because of its slippery feel, Chinese consider this `Heavenly dew' and consider the frog the heavenly chicken or celestial cock. 5. In ancient China, story that Chinese rulers and scholars found the coaking of frog/toad `irritating' and if they `told' the frog/toad to be quiet, they will do just that. - Legend 6. The Chinese has an immortal known as Lui Hai who lived during the Sung dynasty. This immortal (picture) is seen with a three legged toad. 7. The reason why one sees so many commercialised three-legged toad is because, the three-legged toad is suppose to represent money making. 8. In other temple processions of the Chinese God of Wealth, the three-legged toad object is included in the God of Wealth prosession. 9. One of the famous Chinese 8 immortals Zhang Guo Lao (who rides the donkey or house backwards is said to sometimes ride on the three-legged toad). 10. As further information, there is a charm that has the symbols of five poisonous animals. 10.1 The five poisonous animals are: The scorpion, centipede, frog, lizard and the snake. 10.2 This charm is used on the 5th day of the 5th month (which is the dragon boat festival) to protect against evil or bad influences. I hope you can now understand better why people (sellers/merchants) "take advantage" of the symbol of the three-legged toad associating with `money-making'. I am glad that both you and your husband has a very kind heart.. it shows:) Warmest Regards, Cecil
  10. Dear Wasis, Further to what I mentioned below: 1. What I mentioned refers more towards visit / condolence for a `natural' death such as cancer, heart attact, old age etc... (Accidents e.g. car accidents included) 2. For death due to suicide, murder etc... For suicide, most of the cases, in my country the police would handcuff the dead as he/she had committed a crime. For example, if it looks like a clear case of suicide e.g. jumping down a high storey. Some Chinese belief, that after visiting such cases, they would normally, prior to this buy flowers e.g. lily and some lime. When they bathe themselves, they would pour the fiower and lime over their heads. After bathing, they would just wrap up (e.g. in a newspaper) the flower/lime and throw them away. I hope the above serves more for information. It is not my intention to `scare' anyone. If so, please accept my sincere apologies. Warmest Regards, Cecil
  11. Dear Anon, 1. It is true that if one asks Traditional Feng Shui practitioners, many if not all would recommend that doors open inwards. 2. Here, it has to do more with symbolism. 3. For example, a door that opens inwards, is symbolic and looks like a gesture of "welcoming". 4. As you had mentioned, since this is more a `need' or regulation of a location or country, we may need to be `realstic":- 4.1 In terms of Feng Shui, a door open outwards can be considered of "secondary importance " in Feng Shui. Here, we open hear the following words echoed (consciously or unconsciously) to:- " PROTECT, PROTECT AND PROTECT ". 5. Thus, more importantly, we need to PROTECT our MAIN Entrance from poison arrows (if any). This is what I would mean by PRIMARY importance. As compared to "secondary importance" of having an outward door. 6. For some FS practitioners, (I believe) that faced with the situation of an outward door, may add an additional `layer' of protection by having e.g. a secondary "door" behind the outward opened door. If Para 6 i.e. a secondary door is not possible, it could alternatively partially on one side be the cashier's counter etc... The above, trying to have another barrier is a Traditional `method' commonly advised by Trad. practitioners. 7. However, " IT DEPENDS " .. also on the type of business. Having a secondary door would not help certain business. Which may instead `hinder' people wanting to visit the shop. Warmest Regards, Cecil
  12. Dear Wasis, 1. In my opinion, there should not be any issues if you are making a visit on your very auspicious day. 2. What you mentioned would dwell more towards superstitions or beliefs. 3. Overall, all of us would leave this earth eventually and in my opinion, paying respect by making a visit is `neutral'. 4. Some Chinese would prefer to pay a visit in the evening rather than the day time so that after the visit, they can go home and get a bath. (Symbolic of cleaning ourselves). 5. For those who have not visited a Chinese funeral, many would have seen short red strings on the `tib-bit' plate. For example, `visitors' are offered a plate of peanuts and sweet and red strings are placed on the plate. Many `visitors' would then take a red string and later, dispose of it when they are out of the funeral area. This is just a practise. For those who are pregnant, the belief is best not to pay a visit. Nor it is advisable to bring a child unless it is their immediate relative (of the deceased). Again, another belief. Warmest Regards, Cecil Regards, Wasis
  13. Dear Albert, I have considered the site relative to the Brighthill crematorium and columbarium i.e. I have explored the area and in my opinion, they are not exactly in direct path nor very close-by to this development. Overall, the general alignment of this plot of land i.e. the site (in general) is aligned in a North-South direction. This is a plus factor. Having taken this into consideration and the overall surrounding, it has its merits. Warmest Regards, Cecil
  14. Step furniture - Does it cause poison arrows because of its `jagged' shape? Step-furniture Does this step furniture cause poison arrows? Yes, I think so. No, I don't believe it can. Not Sure Current Results
  15. Dear Dianne, 1. In my opinion, currently the web is relatively new and one can say that " Feng Shui site design " has never been proven to work or if one claims that a site is based on Feng Shui, it could either be a modern invention. 2. However, as many (many) FS principles or concepts are based on commonsense approach, one can safely use easy to navigate menus etc... 3. The Ba Gua symbol 4. Several FS practitioners and even authors may feel that the Ba Gua symbol especially the First Heaven Sequence (ref: http://www.geomancy.net/fs/pakua.htm ) 5. This symbol should not be used on the pages as displaying it is like display on the person surfing the page. 6. In the past, when we had the First Heaven Sequence Ba Gua on some of our pages, we (also had this belief) and had an inverse or upside down (wrong symbol) based on the above premise that the First Heaven Sequence ba gua should not be `activated'. 7. For those who had logged into Geomancy.net since the beginning, we had revised our pages from what we feel was in 1997 (first few versions) to many many revisions todate. Out of curiosity, we `coloured' our various sites for example:- Resource pages -> Green in colour (East or Yang) This forum (help and support) -> Water element For other sites, it has a different element colour. The above is how we (Geomancy.net) has intrepretted colours based on activity on this site. As mentioned, the above are what we personally feel and has adopted based on our interpretation which I personally feel is based on what we `liked' and associate with. Warmest Regards, Cecil
  16. Dear Anon, In my opinion, there is some truth in what you had mentioned although it does not have to do with auspicious or inauspiciousness. The reason is because, as many villages and places have abundance of wood (material), it is natural to obtain common and cheap objects (yet strong and sturdy) such as bamboos etc... At the same time, objects especially display stands are usually made of wood as they can easily be carved with intricate designs. Many homes usually display e.g. an elaborate vase with a wooden stand. Few if any of such stands are made of metal. Under the Five Elements concept: Wood destroys or control Earth. Thus, in terms of balance, one would realise that since we have an object e.g. a vase (EARTH element), it is always good (harmony) to use a woodedn stand (WOOD ELEMENT). Thus, traditional Chinese furniture or display unit are made of wood e.g. rosewood etc... and porcelian (EARTH) element are placed onto these furniture. Since Wood controls Earth, this provides some balance. Even under conditions of Bad Earth such as Misfortune #5 or Sickness #2. Hope the above helps those who have porcelian objects and make use of either a vase stand or if one displays a porcelian plate, one should use a wooden display stand to help create a balance. Warmest Regards, Cecil
  17. Dear Spring, I have also done some research and trying to see if I can find something. But currently, I have not found subject relating to webbed feet. Will let you know if I found anything on this. Anyway, what is beautiful in life is in our `heart' and what we make full use of our life:) Overall, for the feet, based on the outline, it can also be classified under one of the five elements: Fire (pointed...especially the pointed toes) , Water (wavy), Earth (squarish) and Metal (roundish feet). Warmest Regards, Cecil
  18. Dear Anon, Yes, usually, chopsticks (for eating) i.e. placed on a dining table should preferably be placed on horizontal. In restaurants and some home, a small chopstick stand e.g. a porcelain shaped fish or other objects is used. The front portion of the chopstick is resting on this `stand'. As for placing chopsticks vertical on a dining table, so far, it usually cannot be done unless it is placed in a cup or glass. But this seems `rude' and so far never in my life, did I see such a thing before. Usually, in a restaurant, a porcelian recptacle is used where many chopsticks are kept prior to `displaying' them on dining tables. Warmest Regards, Cecil
  19. Dear Majorie, Have you an account for the online reports. If you do not have one, please create one at:- www.geomancy-online.com 1. And sent a private mail to Robert-lee@geomancy.net for him to credit u with a Free paid report. 2. If you have your boss's date of birth: Year Month Date (Time optional) after you have been provided with the credit for this month, generate the report and you can find out which is the most suitable dates for each day of the month. Wishing you all the best! Warmest Regards, Cecil
  20. Dear Denise, This url shows how two flutes are `tradtionally' hung to neutralise a beam:- http://www.geomancy.net/mypictures/cgi-bin/imagesearch.cgi?img=0&search=flute&cat=all&x=9&y=7 In your case, for a long hall, usually, potted plants along sections of the hall are used instead to `break' the `long' hall rather than the use of flutes. Warmest Regards, Cecil
  21. Dear Silvia, I understand your problem. It is currently difficult to have FS onsite consultation in Italy other than to source for the nearest neighours such the UK. At the moment, I believe there is no other choice but to use offsite consultation services. If you a sketch of how your `L shaped' house and need to find the centrepoint... feel free to upload to this forum i.e. The conference for attaching layout. For your information, we are currently collaborating on an the Italian version of GEOMANCY.NET run by reputable professionals who is also one of my students. More details in the future.. Warmest Regards, Cecil
  22. Dear Denise, Generally, the fish tank is placed in a `water' star position (Under the Flying Star Theory). Not to sound too technical, usually, without doing detailed FS assessment, the acceptable locations is in the living room area (where there is clear space i.e. water star position. Water star implies flat space so for the living room area, generally, it should have low furniture area and acceptable for water position. But since this is a fish tank, it has to be against a wall especially in the living room. Since the toilet already has a water position, it is still acceptable to keep the fish tank in your case in the toilet provided it is reasonable size to accomodate it. If you feel comfortable ( And the fishes feel comfortable *JOKE*) then it should be OK. But do avoid placing the fish tank in the bedroom or kitchen area. Warmest Regards, Cecil
  23. Dear Anon, 1. Is it possible to draw a sketch using any drawing program or scanned image of the relative size and position of this `poison' arrow in relation to the door. 2.Is the cement block corner pointed towards the door or `parallel' to it. 3. When you mentioned that your toilet is at the SW corner: 3.1 Is it sharing an external wall of the house. 3.2 Is it at the True compass degree SW i.e. 184 Degrees direction. Usually, I believe, in your case, the toilet is not (1) at the centre of the house (2) What made you `concerned' about the toilet at SW i.e. is next to your masterbedroom i.e. bed against it? ... Warmest Regards, Cecil
  24. Dear Albert, There are several considerations in choosing a suitable house based on the Eight House Theory:- 1. The Eight House Theory is more towards finding out:- 1.1 How suitable the house is for the breadwinner. In your case your most suitable house is one where the main entrance door faces SW (Excellent sector). Three other acceptable door positions are at: West (Health); NW (Longevity) and NE (Prosperity). 1.2 In addition, you should also look at what is the intangible force affecting you and your spouse in the bedroom. 1.3 Similarly look at each family member's Gua number (Eight House Theory) to see which room fits them and "visualise" where they can sleep (bearing in mind Shapes and Form FS techniques. 1.4 Shapes and Form techique mention undera Para 1.3; for example, the placement of the bed should where possible not be on the same wall as the door to that room or your bed should not be on the same wall of the toilet. Here, Shapes and Form previals over the "Eight House". That is one should not simply move the bed to a location that is `good' under the Eight House. 1.5 Under the Eight House concept, it is only applicable to where one spends most time at that sector. 1.6 And additional bonus is that if one can face a good direction e.g. for studies (children) this would be an added `bonus'. 1.7 Other than what is mentioned above, the Eight House Theory, cannot do more than this. 1.8 Other FS theories such as Flying Star is used to look at the birth chart of the specific home. Initially, when we search for a good (suitable) home, the eight house theory is a relatively simple and good tool to use. Good Luck in your house selection. Warmest Regards, Cecil
  25. Dear Anon, 1.Overall, one has to check to see where is the `frontage' of the house. In most homes it is usually where the `living' room faces a direction. As it is difficult to say that one model fits all, if say the `frontage' of your house is facing the direction i.e. at the `back patio room' then a water position may still be acceptable. 2. In Traditional Feng Shui, we usually look at two other factors: 2.1 The breadwinners true element and strength. For example, if one is a weak fire and strong water person, it is best to avoid having a water position in the home. For a weak fire person, the addition of a water element may `extinguish' one's `fire'. While too much water (strong water) person may be unfavourable. 2.2 Depending on how `deep' one wants to go into analysis, the other tool used is the Flying Star to check on that sector. Here, the mountain # ; water # and base numbers are looked at together to see if there are any adverse effects of a water position at this sector or that it could be beneifical for the sector (bearing in my Shapes and Form FS also). 3. If the above sounds too complicated, the other method is still the `trial and error' method or intution FS i.e. one may simply try it out. If nothing happens after 1 or 2 months, then ... go ahead with the water position. Warmest Regards, Cecil
