Dear Anon, 1. In my opinion, there are far too many variations of what a mountain star looks like. 2. Therefore, as there are many human beings on earth, there are many Feng Shui practitioners with their own ideas of what the mountain star is. 3. Those who, perhaps sell crystals or used them before, would say that mountain star must be made of crystal etc... 3. While others sell `smooth' or beauty rocks would say that theirs is a mountain star. 4. Thus, it is always unproductive to argue over the shape and form of what a mountain star should be. 5. To this day, no one can claim that his or her mountain star is the only one that works. If so, surely there must be a book written that says clearly by an author. And then, all the controversies start to follow. If someone claim that the 3 legged toad is the only mountain star to use. (Assuming that it can be a mountain star). Who ever markets the idea and copyrights it will gain tremendously. 6. In general, the main consensus is that, it has to: 6.1. Has mass (avoid being hollow) 6.2. Not on wheels or rollers that can be moved i.e. it should be stable and e.g. a flat base where possible. Thus ideally, a solid paper weight can be used. 7. One interesting point here is that today, the reason why there is `no clue' as to what it looks like is because, in the past, it has not been `activated' with small objects. 8. A real mountain star is really a hill or a landscape that offers a solid protection. Thus, activating the mountain star is in truth, activated once, the profile e.g. of a mountain is there. 9. It is like activating the water star. Water reminds us that the land is flat. So with or without water, does not matter because, what the END RESULT is to achieve clear space. 10. Based on what I mentioned above, some I believe, some practitioners may or may not agree and it may open to controversy. Therefore, what I want to mentioned is based on the logic behind how, we seldom ever come across standard definitions or have really seen, a traditional piece of object that can be associated with the `mountain star'. Here, since, nobody can fully describe or explain it. Warmest Regards, Cecil

Dear Anon, 1. Generally, it is very unusual to find water positions on both side of the door. Thus there can be some truth in what you have mentioned. 2. What I mentioned by some truth is that we can still analyse if we want to the effects by looking at the Flying Star Chart of that sector. 3. Another important clue is: 3.1 That too much water creates a too yin environment. 3.2 Traditional Chinese are not infavour of having too many wells at a home or around it. One is bad enough. Although water is a necessity, one major fear is that someone may fall into etc... Therefore, many traditional Chinese belief in spirits in wells. 3.3 Water position where possible at the frontage of the house or building should be one full area and not divided into a few or in such a case, two pools of water. I have so far not come across such a situation as mentioned by you. 3.4 As mentioned earlier, it is highly unusual to have two fish tanks on both side of the main entrance. Perhaps, is the house an aquarium? *JOKE* Two Water positions of fountains are equally highly unusual. Usually, it occupies a central position and clear space around it. 3.5 You mentioned of two water pictures on both side of the door. The question asked is: 3.5.1 Is this recommended by someone or is it because you like it so much. 3.5.2 If you like it so much and if it has been there for sometime without any `problems' then it is usually ok. 3.5.3 As mentioned above, the best method to check if it is ok on a more `scientific' method is to use the Flying Star analysis. Avoid, too much yin elements. For example, if the chart is already too yin for that sector and furthermore, if assuming that there a bad yin influences, the `additional ' water may cause more harm than good. Conversely, it may be good. Thus one should check further on this if one wants to. Else, base on `feelings' or sixth sense. Warmest Regards, Cecil

Dear Anon, Fortunately or unfortunately, Chinese Valentine day is seldom known by the Chinese. I believe many Chinese are not aware that there is such a date especially the young. Often than not, if their parents do not celebrate an event, the child, from a young age to courtship age would have never known of it nor its existence. Thus, only commercialisation can create such an awareness. In Singapore, because of western influence and many of us study English, (ENGLISH) Valentine day is commercialised to the extent that restaurants, boutiques etc.. publish it widely. And fortunately, they will try to get a pie of the business. So, if one day, many companies start to publise the Chinese Valentine Day, it may perhaps take off. For now, since no one is aware of the date, I have yet to see anyone celebrate this date. *Perhaps* I am too old to be romancing. *JOKE* to be aware of such a thing. Warmest Regards, Cecil

Dear Anon, In my opinion, it is difficult to give a precise location for placement of a good luck symbol. As there is no specific literature in the past to say that it must be placed strategically at a location like SE. If so, this is a modern `invention' as to the exact placement. Many people, after seeing others place such a symbol may, go out and buy and place it either at the same location as what they have seen. So, I have come across, some people who place it behind the main door. While others display it prominently on a wall facing the door etc... There is no evidence to say that placing it at one direction is better than another. More importantly for those who want to do so, can, place it at a position that `like' after looking around the home. Where possible, commonsense would have it that one should not place it inside the toilet door facing the toilet seat. Otherwise, if a person like it, do what they please. I believe that this would be a more sensible approach. Warmest Regards, Cecil

Dear Anon, The closet equivalent, I believe is `cheese'. For example, cheddar cheese is not smelly while some other cheese is quite `smelly'. I believe is the `baterial' (edible kind) that makes some cheese smelly. I am not familar with the names of cheese but the kind that is sprinkled on pizza's can be `quite smelly' (or to some, a lovely smelly smell). There is something like `blue' cheese etc... Similarly, the smelly doufu, is because of its interaction with `edible baterial'. Warmest Regards, Cecil

Dear Anon, 1. In Singapore and Malaysia (which are close neigbhours), majority of the time the air is clean. On the government intervention: Most of the industries are highly regulated to ensure that they do not pollute the air or waterways. In Malaysia, `pollution' is isolated to factories or industrial areas. Malaysia is one of the largest rubber producers and if one smell latex before, it is pretty smelly. But the smell is confined to within a small radius within the factory or warehouse. 2. For Malaysia and Singapore, unfortunately because the two countries are close to its neighbour Indonesia, Indonesia is considered the biggest culprit. Its farmers do `slash and burn' prior to cultivation and sometimes, the fire gets out of control. It is because of the many cases of the `slash and burn' that such air pollution is blown to Singapore and Malaysia. The situation was very bad last year and the year before. But today, the PSI or index for measuring it is only very little and non-critical. 3. The worst country so far is Thailand. Because of the massive traffic build up, and traffic jams, the air in the city is polluted. 4. Taiwan can be considered relatively clear unless houses are close to industry production centre. 5. For Hong Kong, it is partially due to the traffic pollution and more importantly, the waterways are dirty as there are many `boat people' or people living on boats. Warmest Regards, Cecil

Dear Mary, Please see below:- I very happy to learn that you have enjoyed this site ... for the last two years. Your words of encouragement will spur us to work harder to continously improve on the site. If you have used the binding element report, the suggested cure is metal. What this means is that where both parties are i.e. especially your bedroom or the living room, you can make more use of `metal' element to bind both parties closer. If we evaluate why the binding element `metal' is useful, we can look at it this way: 1. Metal helps your husband's weak water to grow. 2. Metal, has no ill effects on your Strong Earth element. Metal element is neutral to your strong earth element and it does not make it worse off. For example, when planning the interior decor of your bedroom, you can choose while coloured walls or any colours related to white or `gold'. Other binding elements that help both of you `growth' a healthy relationship is having a white or `gold' can be colours like pinewood (this sort of colours). Bed sheet can be white or gold (furniture more to the `yellowish' or light wood colours rather than brown. In the living room, or other rooms, where both frequent, white or `gold' are colours that you can consider. You do not need to buying everything white or gold. But, in certain situations such as when deciding on a new furniture, you can then consider these two colours. While, under Pillars of Destiny, this is different in that as your husband is a weak water person. Thus, it would be advisable for him to on a personal basis also to have metal e.g. best colours are white shirts or `gold' (yellowish) shirts. Alternatively, he can improve his weak water with e.g. blue or black e.g. black pants or even blue clothes. This is less `impact' as it is the same element as his water. The more productive element that helps water is metal. To understand better, you can refer to the http://www.geomancy.net/fs/5element.htm In your situation, and depending on the season of strength, your best colours is green or brown. This is where, it helps to neutralise the strong earth. On a personal basis, if you are on your own, or for the person, green or brown is the best colour. The situtation to note is under the 10 year Luck Pillar, you can check the season influencing your life for a specific period. If the element says that it is a wood season, then, it is a good period because, your strong earth has already been neutralised. In such a situation, you do not need to surround yourself (personally) with green or wood. Hopes the above helps. Warmest Regards, Cecil

For those who have never visited Asia; in particular, Malaysia, Singapore or Indonesia. It is worth the effort to try out the `King of Fruits' - The durian. The smell can be over powering until it is banned from Singapore Mass rapid transit stations, taxis etc.... For more information, here is one link:- http://www.ecst.csuchico.edu/~durian/ Warmest Regards, Cecil

Dear Steven, 1. Thanks very much for the information and most of us will look forward for the future phots of the antic bells. 2. There are quite alot of `inventions' or `cures' or enhancers in the market. Overall, I believe bells are near eqivalent of wind chimes as they make noise. Some Feng Shui practitioners prefer the use of grandfather (or pendulum) clocks as it makes a constant `tine' or tick tock metal sound. 3. In Hong Kong, some practitioners or manufacturers also come up with things like Qi detector. Once again, many thanks:) Warmest Regards, Cecil

Dear Anon, 1. One method to address this situation is to position the ancestor tablet to the left of the table when facing the altar, ensuring that the table is slightly lower than the deity located on the right. 2. Historically, some individuals have constructed a niche directly above the refrigerator to accommodate their ancestor tablet. Warmest Regards, Cecil

Dear Steven, The two most common metal `cures' are: 1. The six coins which represent `Big Metal'. 2. Some other Feng Shui practitioners sell a brass / copper `Feng Shui ruler'. Because of the content of `metal' in it, these practitioners want you to buy it. To them, it is the equivalent of `Big metal.' As the `life sized' ruler is indeed made of metal, one cannot argue that it is not a `metal' - cure. Since it is like the size of a normal ruler, it contains quite alot of metal. 3. The Bells if they are made of metal can be considered `metal' but to the extend; it is difficult to say if it represents `Big metal' or not. In a previous posting, I mentioned that bells have a significance during a ceremony for the dead. The Chinese belief that ringing the bell during the funeral procession allows the person's spirit to be guided e.g. to his/her new home e.g. a new grave. Warmest Regards, Cecil

Dear Anon, 1. Some `Western Traditional' School of Feng Shui particularly those who practise Flying Star Theory have concern about the rotation of a metallic fan. To them, it circulates metal and their concern is that if a sector is out of balance and if metal is the catalyst, this is a `concern'. 2. In my opinion, looking at the commonsense approach to Feng Shui: Nowadays, many fans no longer have metal blades. And even if the blades are metallic does not mean that it generates `metal'. In view of the above, I personally feel that there should not be any cause for concern over the use of fans. I believe that they are a cheap and economical method of cooling a house. Thus providing comfort to a home. If one were to bring in the argument of air-conditioner, it does have rotary blades even if it is usually plastic and the cooling element is metallic. So, there will always be `arguments' as to its effects. For the fan no one has proven conclusively that it is either good, bad or is neutral. Warmest Regards, Cecil

Dear Carina, Where possible, place plants especially on both sides of the balcony. If the plants flower this would be `great.' For cactus, you can still place them in the balcony. Although it has been frequently mentioned that it is not auspicious to do so. Do so, if you really liked them else, where possible (in my opinion) try not to `use' them if you can. For a balcony, so long as it is within the house, it can be considered in the living area especially if you have sliding doors and immediately get to see it. Frankly, placing cactus is quite a subjective issue. For some people who are not aware of Feng Shui, in my opinion, so far, I do not see any ill effects on them..Back to the drawing board? Warmest Regards, Cecil

All Chinese refer their birthdays to the Chinese Lunar Calendar. As the word `Lunar' suggests, it can also be called the Chinese MOON Calendar. It is easy to know when is the start of each month or the start of Chinese New Year. For example, Chinese New Year is when if you peer towards the sky (in a clear day) and when there is a FULL MOON, it is more likely either the 15th of the Lunar Month or the First day of a new Chinese Month. This is also the rationale why there are 15 DAYS in a CHINESE NEW YEAR.

Dear Cheui May, I am glad that things have improved slightly for you. Please monitor and let me know as your case need attention. Yes, priority should be to neutralise a poison arrow if possible. Or move away from it. The above takes precedence over sleeping in an auspicious sector. Take care! Warmest Regards, Cecil
