Dear Kieren, 1. Ideally, the compatibility of two persons is good: normally one common binding element is sufficent. 2. However, there are many different combinations. As you have given an example: WEAK vs WEAK i.e. weak fire vs weak water. Here, the binding element would have to be two binding elements: wood and water element: where wood is a necessity here. Where wood must be need to strength the weak fire person and to offset the introduction of water for weak water person. With this two elements, it will form a combination flow i.e. water -> wood -> fire (flow). 3. Therefore, any of the permutations of: WEAK VS WEAK WEAK VS STRONG or STRONG VS WEAK STRONG VS STRONG Any of the 5 elements in relation to the above can form a binding element. The above is Traditional best pratises but I found many FS practitioners not practising it. And this is one of the key analysis that we make use of. Warmest Regards, Cecil

Dear Michael, Currently, it is pre-mature for me to confirm which is correct. 1. Overall, Red is considered an auspicious colour). However, (red) doors are featured predominantly in many Chinese buildings (especially guarded with the two lion figurines on either side of the main entrance. Therefore, since this is considered an auspiciuos colour - to some people it means wealth or being prosperous and lucky. 2. Red is considered the most Yang of all the colours and represents the fire element. This is perhaps why some consider it `anger' as fire can mean `flaring up of temper' etc... 3. Therefore, in each case e.g. colour of red signifies prosperity while on the other hand it represents the `fire element'. 4. In Feng Shui, it depends. It depends on the Ba Zi (Pillars of Destiny) of the breadwinner in relation to the `facing' or direction of the main entrance door. It can also apply under Shapes and Form Feng Shui (especially if the main entrance faces e.g. a cemetry... Therefore, both arguments (depending on each situation) as no two situations are similar may be correct. Thus, there is effectively no right or wrong answers for this type of question. Warmest Regards, Cecil

Dear Carrie, If you have a sketch of the various levels of your house, you can let me have a look. You can either sketch it using a simple drawing program or even Microsoft Excel or MS Word (drawing feature) and attached it to this forum. Alternatively, feel free to our fax number with a sketch(es) to +065 4820570 for me to look at it for you. Usually for the basement, I am more concerned with the entire various layout of each level of the house. Warmest Regards, Cecil

Dear Marinella, If your birthday is on 12 February 2002, this is the start of a a new (full) moon. The start of Chinese New Year (12 February 2002) is always considered an auspicious date. And if your birthday falls on this date, you can expect your birthday to be the most widely celebrated occassion by the world's largest population of approximately over 5 billion in China and by many overseas Chinese all over the world. For the Chinese, since 12 February 2002 is the first day of a new moon (full moon); do you know that our Chinese New Year is considered as a total of 15 days from 12 February 2002. This coincide with a total of 15 days of the rotation of the moon around the sun. Many of us (overseas) Chinese in predominantly Chinese populated countries e.g. Singapore will have official public holidays on Tuesday & Wednesday (12 February & 13 February 2002). Many traditional Chinese companies that can afford to close their offices for business for many days. However, the tradition for office opening is:- If a business wants to open business on the THIRD day of Chinese New Year e.g. 14th February 2002; traditional Chinese businessmen would go to their office on early morning of 13th Februray 2002 to `open' their office. They can then start work on 14th February or the THRID day of Chinese New Year. If a business wants to open business on the FOURTH day of Chinese New Year or 15th Feburary 2002, they can go ahead to open their business on that day. Wishing you a Prosperous & Happy Birthday! (in advance!) Warmest Regards, Cecil

Dear Kelly, Yes, so long as: 1. If the sharp corner(s) cannot be seen, it no longer becomes a threat. 2. Breaking the profile of the sharp corner would allevite the poison arrow(s). Warmest Regards, Cecil

Dear Anon, Appreciate if you can clarify the following:- 1. let me know which floor (level) is your house. 2. when you mentioned that there is a mosque opposite your apartment; it is facing your balcony. 3. can you describe more about the 3-dragons water fountain i.e. does the water spout out of its mouth into e.g. a basic or otherwise. Grateful, if you can let me have further information. Warmest Regards, Cecil

Dear XiuMei, 1. It is a lovely painting which is an Emperor (5 claw) dragon playing with a pearl. 2. Your painting of a blue dragon is considered one of the 4 symbolic animals. 3. This blue dragon in Feng Shui is known as the dragon of the East. And symbolises, sunrise and fertility. The dragon playing in the clouds symbolises that it is the `source' of rainfall (good for agriculture). 4. Since this painting `dances' in the cloud in a `playful' gesture, and it deplicts a smiling dragon; it is good to hang the painting specially in the living room area i.e. where the room has some `clear space' or often may have some open windows. 5. Avoid placing the painting in your bedroom and study room. Thanks again for sharing with us the lovely smiling dragon painting. Warmest Regards, Cecil

Dear Users from Argentina, Subject: E-mail Address ending with .ar (Argentina) 1. Please take note that our servers have blocked the entire .ar (Argentina addresses). 2. Therefore, any user who comes from Argentina and using e-mail address e.g. abc@cde.ar or abc@xxxx.ar will not be able to participate thru the mailing list option. 3. This is because many of the ISPs (large and small) in Argentina allow their servers to open relay spams. And some of them have even forged some of our domain names. This has led to receiving forged or rejected mails - supposely from us. 4. And these ISPs are not responsive and continue to allow open relays e.g. allowing their users or third party to sent spams to the international community. 5. We therefore, have no choice but to ban the entire .ar country domain names. As there can be at any one time 30 or more `unbehaved' .ar country servers trying to connect to our servers with the forged headers. 6. If you are in Argentina (.ar) and want to participate thru the mailing list option; please use an account such as hotmail.com to `listen' in or participate thru the mailing list option. 7. So far, this is the only country that which we feel is unresponsive to the international outcry to stop open mail relays (where many servers of .ar companies are helping spammers to sent spam). Requests to the country's ISP is like sending mail to a blackhole. 8. We therefore, regret that we will continue to ban all .ar mails until, some `law' takes in-to this country's internet community. If you are from Argentina, we apologise for any inconvenience caused. Warmest Regards, Cecil Lee

It is typical of many if not all Chinese restaurants to use red for their main entrance. This restaurant uses a " Fan " shaped signboard. In Mandarin the phonetic sound of a Fan is " shan " represents good. At the same time, many Chinese scholars or officials used to carry fans and even fans were frequently used by Chinese Immortals. Here, fan is considered an auspicious symbol as it is said to also help drive away evil.

Dear Max, 1. For a new home, one do not need to strictly adhere to the Grand Duke or Tai Sui theory. Especially if it has not even been stayed in yet. 2. It is always good to choose auspicious dates for: 2.1 Start of renovations. 2.2 Choose a good date for symbolic "move-in". 2.3 Choose a good date for actual move-in. Warmest Regards, Cecil

Dear Steven, 1. I am indeed sad to hear about your problems. Glad that your are progressively recovering. 2. Robert and myself, will pray for you and your family. 3. The Feng Shui we practise here may need some patience and if you have the time; can go thru some of the messages. 4. To help you further, if you know to take compass readings of the centre-point to the main door, we would be most happy to provide you with Free Paid Professional Reports for you and your family. 5. However, as mentioned earlier, since we are not physically present at your home to do an audit, you may have to try to understand key concepts and especially the advise later in the various reports. 6. For the Shapes and Form, if you have a scanned street map or if you can fax it to us at +065 482-0570 or sketch it out and give some details, I can also comment on the plot of land of your house. 7. For a start, if you have the time, you can also use the SEARCH feature in this forum and type in any key words. Usually, there are already existing replies to a known question. 8. As I mentioned early, Good Feng Shui practise is not `Hocus Pocus' and is not one liner like " Where is my wealth sector ".. these sort of things. Feng Shui is a holistic method based; and usually, we should always try to apply most of the good theories or concepts that can apply or be effective to most people. And discard, those that may even be good but seem not to be effective for lots of people. This is where, for example, we should always approach Feng Shui and other of our goals or objectives. 8. We wish you all the best for a speedy recovery! 9. Please e-mail us privately at support@geomancy.net Warmest Regards, Cecil Warmest Regards, Cecil

Dear Tina, Thank you for sharing with us your information. Yes, especially for those in US, it is always prudent to check the credentials of any "FS practitioner" first. As you have mentioned, by asking a few questions; one can have a feel of the person at the other end. I understand that you are on disability income. If you are able to take personal reading e.g. from the centre-point to the main entrance; we would most certainly be glad to provide you the necessary Free credits i.e. Free "paid reports". To help you. Actually most of our paid reports were specificially written for our own professional audit use. And, we feel that it is similar to us being present to do the actual audit. Other than the visual cues of Shapes and Form and taking the necessary compass readings. Because of the high costs of internet charges such as ISP hosting and bandwidth charges, we had to make them paid reports to help defray mainly the hosting costs. Anyway, please e-mail us directly at support@geomancy.net so that we can credit you the necessary FREE paid reports for you to begin analysing your home. We are always around if you should have any clarifications with regards to these or any other reports especially via this Free Advise forum. Or to clarify any Shapes and Forms Feng Shui specific to your home. Warmest Regards, Cecil

Dear Ben, Thank you for your frank suggestion. 1. At this time, we have no intention yet to sell any Feng Shui products. 2. The reason being we want to focus more providing learning resources and quality consultation services both Free and paid. 3. Despite the fact that selling Feng Shui products can be lucrative. However, we do not want our website to lose it's focus. 4. Maybe, in the future, for the sake of supporting users with the proper items; we will probably look at more useful cures such as the six coins, ba gua or windchime. 5. Meanwhile, for those who really cannot find authentic items, but really need our help to do so, we can try to source the item and sent it out at a nominal cost of purchase and postage or courier depending on the urgency (more as a support service for our clients and users here). A. 6 coins - where 6 represents big metal and the coins themselves are of the metal element. B. 6 rod metal windchime - again 6 represents big metal and the constant cling of the rods, is like metal "hammering" element such as earth #5. C. For using `wood' as a cure; it is less `clear' as to what one can use. In my opinion, for a "wood cure", I found that one pot of plant is sufficent to cure a sector that requires a wood cure. It is my opinion that it is a plant where if it is placed on a floor, it is about the height of between 1 1/2 feet to 2 or 3 feet high type of plant. Since you are using a minature jade plant on second thoughts; two pots is still acceptable. To be frank, I may not always be right. And, it is good to see that you have also looked at Feng Shui with a `questioning' mind. I am very happy to see this. And, it is always good to ask questions. For example, after you had mentioned about or had questions concerning Yin and yang e.g. odd or even; for me it is good to relook at situations. I am equally happy to find users in the forum also have constructive questions e.g. recently a recent message about: time-zone in Pillars of Destiny and another question related to binding elements. Like "America is great for entrepreneural spirit"; it is good to understand Feng Shui by questioning and thru the process; all of us learn more! For me, each day is also a new learning experience and we therefore continue to learn more from one another! (And equally important; we learn from our own mistakes and try to hopefully improve on them). Warmest Regards, Cecil

Dear Hoa Luong, Please note that Chinese Astrology books usually provide you the element based on Year of birth. For example, if a child is due or born on or after 12 February 2002; i.e. if the child is born on 13 March 2002; then he/she is considered as born under the Year of the FIRE Horse. Pillars of Destiny not only consider just the YEAR of birth. A simple Pillars of Destiny chart also consider a person's MONTH, DAY & TIME of Birth. Here, for example, the month could be water element; Day - wood element etc... and If one understands carefully each `pillar' i.e. Year, Month, Day and Time of birth has what is known as heavenly stem and earthly branch. And as mentioned above, in a simple Pillars of Destiny chart: there are already 8 variables to look at. Not just Year = Fire etc... Please continue to read my reason for not applying Time Zone at Geomancy.Net. The use of Time Zone is not a traditional approach to calculating ba zi. (ie. add the GMT changes to the hour of birth, this concept is a new concept by some modern Feng Shui practitioners - perhaps to impress on others.) There is only 1 traditional teaching on applying location factor, and that is to apply the location factor (long, lat) of the exact position when you are born to the lunar moon location. This is a complicated process for calculating and also for the people who are going to use it. At Geomancy.Net we decided not to apply any changes because of the following factors. 1. How many people knows exactly the long & lat of where they are born exactly? Many people don't even know the hour of birth let alone the long & lat of birth. So if you don't know the EXACT long & lat, one slight change in 1 degree of any of the angle, will result in a even more in accurate analysis of your birth chart. Coz, a single degree of inaccurate can result in different hour pillar (or worst it might change your day pillar). 2. Any Four Pillars analysis (if they use GMT Timezone conversion) will again not be accurate because the GMT Timezone only use one factor of the location. And now in recent times several countries have adjusted their time zones e.g. by 1/2 an hour to an hour or more. 3. Next, this involves the fact about knowing how ba zi works. If one knows how ba zi really works; one would be aware that even if one does not have the hour of birth it does not really matter. 4. What is the rationale for this? 4.1 With Hour of birth, you will get an additional House of Life (Advanced Pillar). So all in all you have 4 pillars and 2 additional Advance Pillars (this results in better determination of the element strength). 4.1.1 Usually most people who basic 4 pillars are already weak or strong usually will not have much changes with the additional pillars unless that additional pillars really affect the overall chart (particularly the house of Life). This is quite rare, but we do find some people with such a change. 4.1.2 And with the additional pillars, what you can get is just further details of the chart itself. (Otherwise, if the birth element strength does not change at all, it. weak wood is still a weak wood despite having all the additional pillars) There will be absolutely no impact on the final luck pillar reading. 4.1.3 Thus, even if you exclude the Hour of Pillar entirely, it does not really matter much to the final analysis, only affects the determinating of your birth element whether weak or strong. 4.1.4 Let us be realistic: not many people have a clue about their hour of birth; and even if they included their time of birth - there is a high chance that the time may be inaccurate. And this is an accepted fact. 4.2.5 If one has lived a full life; a Professional Ba Zi consultant can actually input only three variables i.e. Year, Month & Day of birth. And, work backwards to find one's Time of birth (based on the two hourly time intervals of Chinese hour. 4.1.6 Therefore the existence of the Hour Pillar is considered Optional (best if you know it, but not a really necessity if you don't know it.) 4.2 A Chinese HOUR pillar actually equates 2 hour. This means that there is already a 2 hour level of inaccuracy involved. This means that even if you are 1 minute apart it will not affect the reading much unless your 1 minute is in the boundary of 2 different hours. 4.3 But when you apply the location factor, it can shift this hour pillar a lot so that there may be a great change in the hour pillar details. Therefore, I mentioned if you do it wrongly or you miss enter your Location factor, it will cause more inaccuracy than making it more accurate. 4.4 The Luck Pillars is calculated from the Month Pillar, so whether or not the hour pillar is there or not, it does not make a difference in the Luck Pillar analysis. 5. Therefore, because we have looked at it carefully and felt that there is really no need to include the " GMT " time factor - which in-fact would create more inaccuracies. Warmest Regards Cecil

Dear Becky, 1. Yes, you brought up a good point. Often, you will see Feng Shui practitioners analysing a birth chart of a house. Without due consideration of e.g. two parties (husband and wife) sharing a room. 2. Please check out this url:- http://www.geomancy.net/reports/reports-list/cmplist-comparison-pillars-rep.htm 3. This sample report gives a comparison of e.g. husband (strong metal) and wife (weak wood). The binding elements to get the two parties to be compatible or reduce conflict is Water element. 4. Thus, this is known as the `binding' element. And it is recommended that for the bedroom of the two persons; we can use the binding element of water. And if they own the house, they can do with more of this element especially in the bedroom area. 5. The same goes for comparision of the binding element for two children staying in the same bedroom. 6. For example, if both a person's son (Weak wood) and daughter (strong earth) are staying in the same room; the binding element is wood element. 7. In my on-line and offsite audits; I have a table drawn of the combination of binding elements between two parties e.g. - Husband & Wife = binding element = wood (Strong Earth vs Weak Wood) - Husband & son - Husband & daugther - Wife a& son - Wife & daugther 8. Such an analysis also tells whether which family member gets along very well with each other or whether, some effort is needed (incompatbile issues) etc... 9. Thus as you have mentioned, the binding element concept is the key to `bind' e.g. the husband and wife. 10. Therefore, in Feng Shui or Pillars of Destiny; it is not so simple as buying an object and placing it at a sector e.g. South-West (romance sector). 11. If one really understands or want to use Traditional methods; it is certainly not the "instant coffee" type of approach. 12. As you can see; most of the time; whatever questions we have would have been `anticipated' or thought about carefully. Especially if both Feng Shui and Pillars of Destiny has been taken seriously. But I believe; if you go and ask many practitioners they may just give a " huh? " is that so... Warmest Regards, Cecil

Dear XiuMei, 1. Appreciate if you can further describe the dragon or its facing. 2. For example, please see attached picture which I had specially commissioned i.e. a painting of Nine dragons (5 claw type) dragon. (Please note, that if you are listening in thru a mailing list or using a newsgroup agent to participate; you cannot see the attachment). All pictures in the forum can only be viewed thru the logon to the website forum). This painting was designed such that there is a central dragon at the centre `blowing' Qi. This painting sits on a wall over looking the sliding doors. And in the morning when I open the sliding panels; the dragon is said to be able to move or flow of it's qi move out of the house. One reason for this specially commissioned painting is because, even though my house has double 7's; there is a lone lamp post slicing thru the sliding area. If you notice carefully also, the author or painter had " refused " to sign on this special commisioned canvas - fear of repercussions on himself. 3. Therefore, hope you can further describe what direction your dragon painting is facing; how many claws it has and what other background objects or other dragons (if any). Best still if you can have a picture taken; so that I can help you look at it further. 4. Otherwise, do take note that the head of dragon should be allowed to face e.g. a window or an opening (for space). It should not be facing inwards into the house. Contrast this with a painting of 9 horses. Where, this is good for business as the horses should face a door. (To seek out business). Warmest Regards, Cecil

Dear Tina, A warm welcome to you:) 1. Under Compass School Feng Shui; (especially Flying Star Feng Shui) one can either take readings based on the building or an individual apartment like your house. 2. However, under the Eight House Theory or East/West Group of persons; usually the orientation is taken from the centre-point of your individual apartment to the main entrance door. 3. You can view this url:- http://www.geomancy.net/resources/art/art-cecilcompass.htm to confirm how to take compass readings from the centre-point of your individual unit. 4. Please note that the above method(s) are based on the use of an ordinary compass. 5. In Feng Shui, if one knows how to use the Chinese Luopan; the readings is based on the `sitting' position and facing (frontage) of the house. As you have mentioned, it could be the main entrance or the location where the windows at the frontage are. But usually, this is done (best) by a competent FS practitioner. If you are using method (Para 5). 6. Otherwise, you should follow the advice mentioned under Para 3 (above). 7. Yes, it is considered inauspicious for the main entrance door to face the bathroom. Yes you can place a partition or screen. The screen need not necessarily be of full height. If you place a tall piece of furniture, it should be as tall as the height of the toilet door. Lower than that is not advisable. Warmest Regards, Cecil

Dear Anon, 1. In my opinion, it is crucial to analyse not only the house but also do a general survey of the site where the house is situated. 2. This is because, many times, we forget about the external environment. It is like doing up a wonderful house to come home to. But everything else outside of the house may be "crumbling". This may be an extreme interpretation, but the interior of the house is just one of the many aspects of good Feng Shui assessment. 3. Sometimes, simple things like standing at the front of the main door and looking out to check for poison arrows. And in turn, stand at each window and look out of the house to check for poison arrow(s). Poison arrow(s) can be in the form of a lone lamp post, a pointed neighbour's roof etc... Here, it is like a `leak'. For example, if we are on a boat today; and if there is a leak, we should spent our time to fix this leak. And not try to beautify ourselves in the boat. Warmest Regards, Cecil

Dear Anon, Please see below:- Usually one should use 6 coins tied with a red string for this sector - East. But in year 2002 i.e. starting from 12 February 2002; there is a #5 at this sector. And if so, the 6 coins may not be able to handle it that well. Here, "moving metal" is advise: Either: 1. The `tick-tock' of a brass pendulum clock of a `real grandfather clock'. Caution: Not those cheap imitation grand father clock where the pendulum is made of plastic and spray painted with metallic colour. OR 2. A metal clock with metallic components or springs inside it which makes `tick-tock' sounds 2. Use a 6 rod metal wind-chime. Here, it is preferred that there should be movement of frequent `strong' air. A gentle breeze would not be able to activate the `cling' of the wind chime and may not be effective. Yes, if the room is properly cured or neutralised using the relevant Flying Star cure; anyone can then stay in the room afterwards. For a female child born between 27 Jan 1990 to 14 Feb 1991 - the most ideal house is the North-East house. And east is her `irritation' sector. Not ideal but, still ok to stay in the room. (As compared to if this is the `death or disaster' sector). Warmest Regards, Cecil
-
Dear Hoa Luong, 1. Thank you for your description of the two rooms. 2. Under Ba Zi Feng Shui, the better room would still be at the West. As west is represented by the metal element as you are a weak water person. Your second best favourable sector is North. 3. Overall, it is secondary or minor concern if any on where your kitchen/garage dinning room etc.. is in relation to the room you are choosing for your office. So long as the Flying Star of the house is looked at and imbalances cured, this is not much of an issue. 4. For the room in the west, my only concern here is the afternoon sun. If the walls of the room is heated say around afternoon to around 5.00pm and if say it makes the room uncomfortable e.g. hot, then, my suggestion would to take the North/NE sector room instead. Warmest Regards, Cecil

Dear Margie, A rectangular bedroom is good. Please see below:- You may still have the bed face the door. But avoid the `coffin position' where one's feet directly faces the bedroom door. This is where the whole body is parallel with the wall and when one enters the bedroom door, see the entire peron's feet and body in a straight line. Otherwise, it is still acceptable for the bed to be facing the bedroom door. It should be that our head should be able to look at the bedroom door and see who is coming in. Yes, you can have the dresser with mirror placed along the side of the bed. And not let it face any part of the bed. This is considered acceptable. Warmest Regards, Cecil
