Dear Major Sono, 1. For a building, usually (majority of the time), its Feng Shui depends on the entire building. If the building has good " Feng Shui ", based on good shapes and forms and a good open space at the front. If this building has been looked at under a Feng Shui perspective, it is said that it good for the tenants. 2. In your case, (the building) of the house if it already has good Feng Shui properties, and if there is already a water position at the frontage, it is usually not necessary for you to have a water position in your office reception area. 3. As I mentioned in the earlier mail, Shapes and Form Feng Shui is equally important for layout placement. Thus, based on Shapes and Form, your office seems to be situated in a favourable position. You should take note that your table should lean against a support i.e. a wall and if possible, the back of your table should preferably not have windows but rather (if possible) a solid wall). In the above, I would consider, that having a good Shapes and Form is indeed a plus point and usually, an advantage. However, if one is able to hire a competent FS consultant, he/she would further visually look at the entire office and even cross-reference to other FS theories like Flying Star to look at the reception area, your office and the entire office. This would indeed be a further advantage. 4. A good Feng Shui consultant would analyse the chart of the office and look at the `Qi' flowing firstly into the reception and into the entire office i.e. either to look at situating the reception at the centre or on one side of the reception area. If a water position, recommend the location and placement. 5. In general, a water fountain, would be a better choice than a fish tank: 5.1 A water fountain, is easier to maintain and depending on its size, is considered `more vibrant' than a fish tank. A fish tank is usually encased (or enclosed on the top) and it is said that `qi' is contained and not as vibrant as say of the fountain / waterfall. In addition, it is much more harder to maintain a fish tank. You also have to consider the type of fish and for some even the shape of the fish tank and the number of fishes. A fish tank (usually) is meant more to correct `sha qi' than say as a `hobby' of wanting to keep fishes. As each office and building is different, I can on `paper' provide a guideline as what to expect and usually, if one can, it is best to consult a competent FS Consultant (where possible). Warmest Regards, Cecil

Dear Tracy, In general, spiral staircases are best to be avoided. However, it also depends on the location. As you have briefly mentioned, that it cannot be seen directly... If it is not seen directly from the main entrance, this is a `plus' point. Overall, the spiral staircase has to be looked at in the context of the whole house and its location in relation to the layout plan. And based on situation. Warmest Regards, Cecil

I believe some of us have read about the claims on the health giving =properties of drinking green tea. I find this article interesting. WORK HARD BUT DO TAKE CARE OF YOUR HEALTH. According to increasing research worldwide, each cup of green tea is more than just a comforting brew. It could very well be your cup of good health. 1. FRESHEN UP For starters, tea enhances your environment. New research points to used tea bags to help fight sick-house syndrome. According to Tokyo Metropolitan Comprehensive Consumer Centre, formaldehyde, usually found in bonding agents, emits an unpleasant odour sometimes causing allergies and other health problems. Their experiment revealed that tea leaves - black or green, fresh or used - do not release the substance back into the atmosphere after it has been absorbed. If placed in a closed space, such as a cupboard, the leaves also make a significant difference in reducing the amount of formaldehyde in the air. 2. A NATURAL ELIXIR Green tea contains a high content of vitamins, minerals and about 15 - 30 percent more polyphenols. The most potent ingredients found in green tea is polyphenols, a group of powerful antioxidants. The best known of these polyphenols is from the "cathechin" family which has been shown in numerous studies to have far-reaching beneficial effects on the entire body. 3. THE TUMOUR TERMINATOR Researchers found that EGC, a compound in green tea inhibits an enzyme required for cancer cell growth and can kill cultured cancer cells with no ill effect on healthy cells. Although all teas come from the same botanical source, green tea differs from black or oolong teas because it goes through very little processing and hence, has better nutritional and medicinal benefits. Findings by Purdue University suggested that =drinking more than four cups of green tea a day could provide enough of the active compound EGC to slow and prevent the growth of cancer cells. Other research shows that green tea may be a promising weapon in the fight against cancers of the breast, stomach, colon, bladder, prostate, oesohagus and liver. One study even pointed out that although Japan has one of the highest rate of smokers in the world, they have one of the lowest rates of lung cancer of any developed nation because the Japanese have long consumed green tea with their meals. 4. MATTERS OF THE HEART Heart disease and strokes are associated with a number of risk factors and green tea appears to mitigate many of these risk factors. Researchers speculate that antioxidants are at work again. They probably prevent low-density lipoprotein(LDL) from promoting the plague build-up that clogs arteries. Other research has shown green tea to inhibit abnormal blood clot =formation, the leading cause of heart attacks and strokes, as effectively as aspirin. 5. THE FOUNTAIN OF YOUTH You can retard the ageing process by filling up on antioxidants. The very fact that green tea contains a powerful antioxidant is a strong foundation for believing it can help delay or even reverse ageing. Tea antioxidants are not only 100 times as effective as vitamin C, but they are also 25 times as effective as vitamin E in neutralising free radicals. 6. ANTI-ARTHRITIS AGENT Green tea is said to prevent rheumatoid arthritis, a disease characterised by inflammation, pain, swelling and joint destruction, which is known to afflict middle-aged women. 7. A WEIGHTY ISSUE If you are trying to lose weight, sipping green tea may be the only workout you need according to some researchers. In a study at the University of Geneva, Switzerland, green tea appeared to raise metabolic =rates and speed up fatxiation. 8.. CAN THE CAVITIES Halitosis or bad breath can be embarasing, but instead of reaching for a mint try a sip of green tea instead. It is a known fact that small amounts of fluoride can strengthen teeth and help prevent cavities. Green tea contains natural fluoride. Also, the catechin in green tea has a strong antibacterial effect. So besides killing bacteria that cause cavities and eliminating bad breath, it can suppress the formation of plague, which can result in gum disease. We know from current research that there's a high correlation between gum disease and heart disease, and this could explain why there is a lower cardiovascular disease risk =among tea drinkers. HOW TO DRINK YOUR TEA? Use one tea bag or one to two teaspoons of leaves per cup. Fill a kettle with cold water and bring it to a boil; allow it to stand for up to three minutes. Water should not be boiling hot to prevent throat irritation and an an increased risk of oesophageal cancer. Pour the heated water over the tea bag or tea leaves and allow it to steep for up to three minutes. Allow the tea to cool for three more minutes before taking a sip. Don't add milk because it can inhibit the absorption of polyphenols. COMPONENTS OF GREEN TEA Catechin - reduce risk of cancer, restraints tumours, lowers blood =cholesterol, prevents high blood sugar, kills bacteria, fights flu virus, prevents cavities and bad breath. Caffeine - keeps you awake, =works as a diuretic Vitamin C - reduces stress, prevents colds and flu Vitamin B - promotes metabolism. Flavonoids - strengthens the blood vessel wall, prevents bad breath Vitamin E - works as an antioxidant, helps to maintain youthfulness. Gamma-Amino Butyric Acid (GABA) - lowers high blood pressure.

Dear Jacqueline, When one tries to apply the Five Elements concept to a sector of a room, ideally, it should be referenced with the Flying Star Theory. This is because, the Flying Star Theory, uses the five elements to analyse each sector and the ultimate aim here is to create a balance at this sector. Thus it does not matter if your coal fire faces north and postulate whether it takes on `fire' etc... Warmest Regards, Cecil

Dear Major Sono, 1. Yes, in Feng Shui, one has also to rank the importance of the various concepts and theories. 2. In general, without looking into detail, the layout plan viz-a-viz things like the location of the main entrance, toilet locations, it would be good to have the President's office located at a `solid' location protected behind by e.g. walls ... 3. Thus you are not wrong to say that an office or room should be diagional to the main door. In addition, the placement of the table in relation to shapes and form is best. 4. Only after the above is `satisified' then you see if you have the luxury of facing a good location i.e. `nice to have'. But not compulsory. Warmest Regards, Cecil

Dear Kuah Huang, You can check out this url:- http://my.geomancy.net/mypictures/cgi-bin/imagefolio.cgi?direct=Feng_Shui_Cures/6_coins In Feng Shui cures, the best remedy is to use 6 ancient Chinese coins with square holes in the center. The 6 coins are tied with a red string. It is usually hung on top of the wall or on the curtain as shown in the picture. For the picture, Singapore $1 coins can be used and placed side-by-side in a 3x2 row on a red packet. Warmest Regards, Cecil

Dear Durelle, For a North 0/360 house under period 6: 20 Year Flying Star Chart for the North sector:- 5 7 2 Yearly star for the North Sector 5 2 For this sector: "Make use of Wood to destroy and control Earth" In general, for the interest of those who are not familiar with Flying Star: #5 (Bad Earth) represents Misfortune, Sickness while #2 (Bad Earth) represents Sickness. Based on the preliminary finding under Flying Star, indeed the North sector of the house is not inauspicious. In practise, one should also consider and neutralise imbalances of all other sectors. Equally important, is that the house must also suit the home owner plus it has also to be analysed in relation to the Shapes and Form. I roughly looked through other sectors such as North-East, West, East, South-West, South-East, needs correction to neutralise the imbalances of the birth chart of the house. If you want, you can email Robert-lee@geomancy.net to allow you to generate a Free "paid Flying Star" report. Currently, we unable to take in any more help as each of us are helping 5 cases each which involves `severe' cases and would like to pay attention to help such users who had approached us first. Warmest Regards, Cecil

Dear Susan, In Chinese culture, many traditional buildings have e.g. lions guarding the main entrance or other `fierce' creatures placed e.g. on a building. Thus, in my opinion, the "Gargoyles" that you had mentioned, served a similar purpose in some `western' buildings. For the Chinese, it is quite common to find a pair of dragons or a dragon "guarding" each side of the roof. However, this is usually found on temple roofs only. Most homes do not use such figurines. In Feng Shui, if it is a `public' building e.g. Chinese Chamber of Commerce Building or other public buildings that has a traditional touch, would usually place two lions on each side of the main entrance. Dear Elena, No, many FS practitioners would not consider this a change of `birth chart'. Warmest Regards, Cecil

Dear Anon, You can check out this page: www.geomancy.net/fs/colours.htm It will show the colour for the specific element and also, how colour is associated with Chinese customs. Warmest Regards, Cecil

Dear Rasika, 1. It is best to follow the `method' provided (totally) from a source and not mix e.g. what one reads from a book and `mix' the methods used in other book or website. 2. For example, in this website, the method used is to follow step-by-step instructions under: http://www.geomancy.net/fs/house1.htm or use the free computerised Eight House report. In this website, you get a graphical diagram showing all the eight kua directions and each person's intangible force at e.g. North, South, East, West, NE, NW, SE, SW. Based on this website, you should find the centrepoint of the house and use an ordinary compass. Instructions are at http://www.geomancy.net/fs/cecilcompass.htm 3. It is never wise to read up half a book, and then follow instructions from another book or site. If traditional FS methods are followed, and if one follows the instructions FULLY in a book or website, you should get the same result. Warmest Regards, Cecil ----- Original Message ----- From: "free-advice Listmanager" To: Sent: Friday, August 04, 2000 5:49 AM Subject: Kua number to find auspicious direction

Dear Melanie, In my opinion, there is really not much one can do in such a situation. Usually, (but may not be feasible) in your case is the use of false ceiling or a poster bed with cloth covers over the top of the bed. Since this option may not be available, hanging a crystal, may make one `feel good' but thats all it can do. In traditional FS, besides this situation, one uses e.g. the Flying Star to analyse and if there are any imbalances, neutralise it to lessen any effects in the sector. Warmest Regards, Cecil ----- Original Message ----- From: "free-advice Listmanager" To: Sent: Wednesday, August 02, 2000 7:31 AM Subject: Window above bed

Dear Rasika, Under the Compass School of Feng Shui, 1. Eight House Theory: Under this theory, it is good for a breadwinner to have a good orientation of the main door (suited) to him/her. For a building, the best choice is to have it sited in a good site and enjoy firstly good shapes and form. This will be advantages to everyone occupying the building. 2. Flying Star Theory. The direction of the main entrance door will determine the `birth chart' of the house i.e. the birth chart of the house/building is determined based on its main door direction. 3. Thus, if one uses the ordinary compass to take a reading, it should be taken from the centrepoint of the house/building. And not whether one is standing at the main entrance looking out or looking in. (If one uses the Chinese Luopan, I consider this another method, and one should base on the instructions for this). 4. Overall, this site uses the ordinary compass so that it will be widely understood by everyone all over the world who do not have a Chinese Luopan nor know how to use it. Warmest Regards, Cecil ----- Original Message ----- From: "free-advice Listmanager" To: Sent: Friday, August 04, 2000 5:50 AM Subject: Direction and orientation of entrance

Some of us are familiar with the term "K.I.S.S." applied in other areas. K.I.S.S. refers to " Keep it Simple Stupid ". It is worth remembering that the essence of the above sentence can equally be applied effectively to Feng Shui. After all, it is commonsense and many Feng Shui concepts, theories and ideas are borne out of commonsense. Say "K.I.S.S." the next time:) Warmest Regards, Cecil P.S. I sent you all my " KISSes ":))

Dear Susan, It is quite common for the husband and wife to have "opposite" houses or kua under the Eight House Theory. Under the Eight House Theory, do look out for:- 1. How suitable the house is to the breadwinner i.e. one's kua or intangible force at the main entrance. 2. The Eight House relates to how much time we spent at a sector of the house. Thus it would be useful to know what is the intangible force for the spouse and husband in the bedroom. Where possible, let the person who beneifits most sleep closer to the intangible force. While the person who does not have a good influence sleep further away from that sector. (A good bonus is if one sleeps e.g. with the head facing a good direction). 3. Other than the above, in the office, where possible sit facing a good direction. The above, is as much as the Eight House Theory provides. It does not go further than the above. 4. More importantly, is to make sure that e.g the position of the bed conforms FIRSTLY with the Shapes and Form. For example, it is `no point' placing the bed on the same wall as the toilet. But rather, place it in a good Shapes and Form position is MORE important consideration. Warmest Regards, Cecil

A touching story........ One day a father of a very wealthy family took his son on a trip to the Chinese countryside with the firm purpose of showing his son how poor people can be. They spent a couple of days and nights on the farm of what would be = considered a very poor family. On their return from their trip, the father asked his son, "How was the = trip?" "It was great, Dad." "Did you see how poor people can be?" the father asked. "Oh yeah" said the son. "So what did you learn from the trip?" asked the father. The son answered, "I saw that we have one dog and they had four." "We have = a pool that reaches to the middle of our garden and they have a creek that = has no end." "We have imported lanterns in our garden and they have the stars at = night." "Our patio reaches to the front yard and they have the whole horizon." "We have a small piece of land to live on and they have fields that go = beyond our sight." "We have servants who serve us, but they serve others." "We buy our food, but they grow theirs." "We have walls around our property to protect us, they have friends to = protect them." With this the boy's father was speechless. Then his son added, "Thanks dad for showing me how poor we are." Too often we forget what we have and concentrate on what we don't have. What is one person's worthless object is another's prize possession? It is all based on one's perspective.
