Dear Maria, The distinction here is what tool is used to take the compass reading of the front/main entrance door? Here, in my opinion, usually the confusion arised because of the instruction(s) given by various parties. A. If one is using an ORDINARY compass, then use this method: http://www.geomancy.net/fs/cecilcompass.htm One will normally not go wrong using the above method. B. But if one is using a Chinese LUOPAN, then, measurement can be different. Here, it is not uncommon to find out the facing and sitting direction. Thus, one has to be absolutely CLEAR which TOOL is being used. For the flow of Qi, on `paper' since the main entrance has been considered as the MOUTH of the house, then this is a crucial area of Qi coming into the home. On other areas of Feng Shui, one could also look at the frontage or the location where most light enters the home. - Here, it is still best to take the compass reading from the centrepoint to the main entrance. Warmest Regards, Cecil

More pictures around the North - East / Centre and South - West flags. Look out for more volumes shortly on other items...
-
In many of the pictures you will see that the flags are placed according to North, South, East and West. You can also see the romanised character of each of the Mandarin word for: North - Bei (or a good example is Beijing, the capital of China. Where `Bei' refers to North and thus one can now understand that Beijing is located in the `north'. South - is known as `nan'. East - as `dong' West - is `xi'. Apologies if the graphics is between 110k to 170k each. This is because, the finer details can be view extremely clear. Rather than less clear.

Dear Shirlee, 1. It depends. 2. If you have picture(s), I can take a look at it as the `fortune' or wealth can be affected adversely at such locations. For example, it can either be inauspicious or auspicious. 3. It is always best that you look at the commercial viablility mainly:- 3.1 History of previous business. Try to find out, the type of business and if you are going in on with the same business. Why did the previous owner give up? (if it is an existing location). How is business at the locality. 3.2 If you have the time, try to monitor the traffic and business (depending on the week of the day i.e. sample of business on a Monday-Friday? And Sat - Sun if you intend to open the shop. 3.3 The frontage of the shop is equally important. Since, not all cases are identical, try to find out more... Like I mentioned earlier, it can be a two edged sword... some sites can be very auspicious while others... a `disaster' for business. Warmest Regards, Cecil

1. Imagine the pain they have to go through to bind their feet. 2. And the agony of walking ...like walking on stilts.... 3. It was thought in the past that girls / women would look graceful with `small feet'. But really.. what an agony... I cannot imagine! Source and Credit: Some of the photos have `credits' on them. For those pictures - from unknown source. I will be pleased to add the credit to these pictures / illustration if highlighted to me...

Dear Rosie, Apologies for the late reply. If you have determined using Flying Star and found that this is a misfortune area, usually this #5 should be looked at in conjuction with the other two Flying Star numbers of that sector. For example, mountain #5, water star #2, base star #3 - under Flying Star, and using the Five Elements concept, this sector is out of balance. You can use metal cures to neutralise the imbalance caused at this sector. Warmest Regards, Cecil

Dear Md Haque, To take a compass reading, one should take the compass degree of the main door. The definition of the main door is the door where, you enter the living room area. Usually, this door has the door number on it. For reference:- http://www.geomancy.net/fs/cecilcompass.htm Warmest Regards, Cecil

Dear all, I have taken interesting photos on the 7th month festival such as: - a `mountain' of "pineapple offerings" - flags showing North /South / East West etc... and more... I will try to compile them and post them to the forum as soon as possible. Warmest Regards, Cecil

Dear Anon, 1. Can you confirm whether there are any `poison arrows' threatening your main entrance door. 2. I would normally not recommend using a Ba Gua without a proper reason for doing so. 3. Usually, it is common for the Ba Gua to be hung for the following reasons:- 3.1 To help ward off `sha qi' or poison arrows aimed at the main entrance. Best to stand at the main entrance looking out of the house. Look out for poison arrow(s) in the form of a pointed roof of a neighbour's home aimed at the main door or a lone lamp post which seemed to be `slicing' the main entrance or any windows of the room. 3.2 In the `East' it is usually used in conjuction with:- - Charms written on yellow paper to ward off evil. - Or a Ba Gua mirror with the two door gods attached to the picture. The sample picture of Ba Gua mirror with door gods is shown under the following URL: http://www.geomancy.net/mypictures/cgi-bin/imagesearch.cgi?search=door%20god&img=40&cat=all Warmest Regards, Cecil

Dear John, 1. Thanks for sharing with us the information. I have short write-up which I written quite sometime back on this. The URL is at: http://www.geomancy.net/fs/pakua.htm Please see below (my comments):- In my opinion, it is best not to `verify' what was written at another site but rather; I feel that it would be better to bring out two differing camps - the `issues' relating to this subject. And that, in my opinion there are no right or wrong answers. Ultimately, each of us, should form our own opinion. Yes, there are two opposing views: 1. One view is that it can be used to either ward off evil or used against `Sha Qi' or poison arrows. Within this camp, some FS practitioners may agree with using it to ward off evil and/or `Sha Qi'. While some FS practitioners may only agree with either it being used to ward off evil or used only against `Sha Qi'. 2. Some FS practitioners may feel that using Ba Gua mirror is simply " Bull-shit ". If I read the words correctly, the central argument is that it "does not reflect back anything i.e. reflect back evil". Yes, in my opinion, I also feel that it does not reflect back evil. The main situation why some FS practitioners may perhaps be improperly quoted is that they feel that the Ba Gua mirror should not be placed inside the home. The reason is that the "First Heaven Sequence" mirror (reference: http://www.geomancy.net/fs/pakua.htm ) can be considered to be kinda of - "too Yang" to be placed inside a normal home. (For example, it is acceptable to be placed inside a temple, this is acceptable.) As a temple is considered a depository of people's sorrow/problems etc... The above is one view-point. Because, of the suggestion that it should not be placed in side the home, some FS practitioners may perhaps, conclude that these " FS practitioners" may have wrongly interpreted as it being bad as it can `bounce back evil'. The Ba Gua mirror, is not an evil thing and how come, it can `bounce back evil'? Perhaps, there is some misunderstanding of it here. This Fu Xi Bagua or also known as the First Heaven sequence has trigram arrangement that `picture perfect' in that the opposite trigram shows a relationship to each other. So you have: Heaven to Earth; Wind to Thunder; Water to Fire; Mountain to Lake. Frankly, there are many interpretations on the use of the Ba Gua and above is one of them. In the `East' it is common to find religious practitioners `apply' the Ba Gua trigram or even simple mirrors to the homes of their followers. Toaist priests have often gone to homes to `bless them'. You can see mirrors and yellow charms pasted above the doors. (Do note that these charms are used to `ward-off evil or bad luck'. As the Ba Gua trigrams are an intergral part in Toaism, the use of it can be diverse. If one is interested in finding out more about the trigrams, one can get hold of books on I-Ching. There are quite a number of these books nowadays. Books interpreted from the original I-Ching book especially by James Legge etc... in the past, have a chapter on the `First Heaven Sequence' and `Later Heaven Sequence.'. On how, the two Trigrams (Ba Gua symbols) came about. The famous Chinese - Confucious had said that if he had lived another 50 years, he would have devoted his time to "try and understand the I-Ching". Thus, it would not be fair for anyone to `speak their mind' for or against the various methods on the use of the Ba Gua symbols. It would be fairer to look at two opposing camps without `jumping to personal conclusions' Warmest Regards, Cecil P.S. Appreciate, if you do not `quote' what I had mentioned here to other forums or to the owner of the website without my express permission. In my opinion, there are lots of FS practitioners "who do not like to hear what they do not like to hear". And create lots of `bad energies' bad mouthing others...

Dear Vijay, In my opinion, there are many other factors that can influence the sale of your house. Overall, the main factors are: 1. Location, location, location. 2. Selling price & market conditions. 3. Luck factor - however, there are said to be many forms of luck. Chinese divinity uses Pillars of Destiny (map out Heaven's luck) and try to increase this. 4. For Feng Shui, if there are salient or good points of the house under Feng Shui; one may try to `sell' this as value added - provided the buyer can be convinced about Feng Shui and good points about it. Sometimes, if the house is not so good, this can however backfire. 5. For a new good house, you can try out the Good House report at www.geomancy-online.com. Warmest Regards, Cecil

Dear Cindi, If you can the layout sketch in a paint program, much the better as it does not turn out well in text. Warmest Regards, Cecil

Dear Nina, 1. In my opinion, using `fixed' Ba Gua template is not proper FS concepts. 2. However, I have taken the opportunity to marked out the `centre-point' of your house. If you are using Compass School Feng Shui methods such as: Eight House of Flying Star, you can take a compass reading (refer to house1a.bmp) and `aim' the compass towards the main entrance. The compass reading will determine the direction of your main entrance door. 3. For the second part of the `L' shaped layout, you can super-impose the map to this other half. Warmest Regards, Cecil P.S. Please download attached file.

Dear Sarah, Thanks for bring up an interesting point. Yes, usually the question that it (slanted roof) is considered `inauspicious' has been brought up. But not how much `damage' it may cause. In my opinion, an overhead beam would be more inauspicious then say a slanted roof. I have audited several homes with slanted roof ranging from it in the bedroom area to the study room. Some of the rooms have the slanted roof away from the bed or study. While some rooms have it away from the study (chair area where one sits). Based on my personal experience; I feel that: 1. it depends on whether how long one spents at the sector (with the slopping ceiling). 2. if for example, the bed or study chair is away from the sloping ceiling, there is no impact. 3. But from several cases, I had audited previously, i.e. Para 1 senario, mostly, it is only `minor irritation' or quite minor `problems' associated with it (subject to how much time one spends there). Minor irritation in terms of some `hiccups' or minor stumbling blocks (in life) but not major ones (so far). I still keep in touch with a few clients who have this slanted ceiling and is still observing how much impact it has or if any. Warmest Regards, Cecil

Dear Anon, You can make use of the following tools to help you find the best direction for the main entrance door: manual method: http://www.geomancy.net/fs/house1.htm computerised method: Best to read thru some of the information in the above site first. Dear Wasis, Thanks for your advice. I did a search engine and came up with the URL for the home site of "Home Plan Pro". You can find out more about this software from their URL: http://www.homeplanpro.com Warmest Regards, Cecil Lee

Dear Wasis, You can make use of the Singapore virtual street directory map at this URL: http://streetdirectory.com NOTE: The `cut and paste' of the URL below MAY not work. You should go to the site first and use the SEARCH feature to type in either the street e.g. Waterloo Street (Location A) and Smith Street (Location B) and zoom in or out of the map from there:- I did a search for Location A as:- (Waterloo Street area) http://streetdirectory.com/map.cgi?sizex=400&sizey=400&ismap=1&x=30186.1752& y=31479.5516&level=7?294,292 And Location B:- (Peoples Park) http://streetdirectory.com/map.cgi?sizex=400&sizey=400&ismap=1&x=29176&y=294 33&level=7?78,118 You can also use the virtual map to have a peek at other locations in Singapore or type in any of the names I mentioned earlier. Warmest Regards, Cecil

Dear Wasis, For purchase of Ba Gua mirror(s), 6 coins etc... Here are the suggested locations:- LOCATION/SECTOR A Buildings/Landmarks:- 1. Fu Lu Shou Complex 2. Albert Complex 3. Housing and Development Shops facing (opposite) the famous " Kwan Im Tong Hood Che Temple - located at Waterloo Street. 4. Housing and Development Block 405 (just opposite the Bugis MRT). 4.1 In fact, Para 1, 2, 3 & 4 are within walking distance of one another. 4.2 Do look out for `open air' shops `surrounded' by Albert Complex, Fu Lu Shou Complex and Kwan Im Tong Hood Che Temple. 4.3 There are many `open air' shops especially in the evening. LOCATION/SECTOR B Another location is `Chinatown'. It is worth visiting the following shopping centres there:- 1. The stretch of Eu Tong Seng Road in particular:- 1.1 Peoples Park Complex 1.2 Yue Hwa Bulding 1.3 Chinatown Complex/ New Bridge Ctr. 1.4 Terrace shop houses along - Temple Street, Smith Street, Sago Street, Sago Lane. 2. Currently there are construction work carried out for the North-East MRT (where there is a MRT station and some inconvenience. But other than this, you could get hold of the location map and perhaps plan your route to visit the terrace shops located at Temple Street / Sago Street Lane / Pagoda Lande and walk to Chinatown Complex and New Bridge Center then use the overhead bridge to cross to Peoples Park Complex / Yue Hwa Building. 3. Ba Gua mirrors: 3.1 If you can, you could buy the Ba Gua mirror with the two Door gods attached to the top of the mirror. 3.2 What is the purpose of the Ba Gua used for? Mostly there could be used for two purposes: Some belief that: 1. To ward off evil. 2. To deflect sha Qi. As mentioned above, a Ba Gua mirror with the two door Gods attached to can to some practitioners used to supposely to ward off evil. And serve a dual purpose of deflecting sha qi if there is a mirror on it. 3. I mentioned in the past, I chanced across several situations where two main doors of separate houses faced each other. The two doors were separated by around 1 metre or less. 3.1 In the above situation, one owner placed a Ba Gua with a `normal' flat or convex mirror in the centre of the Ba Gua above the main door. 3.2 The other owner `retaliated' by placing a full convex mirror on his door. The convex mirror is suppose to deflect the bad sha qi of the neighbours. 3.3 Usually, the convex mirror is used or more commonly used in the homes. 4. In the west, especially if you meet `western' FS practitioners - some would condone the `effectiveness' of the Ba Gua mirror. You can find out more info on Ba Gua's under this URL: Ref: http://www.geomancy.net/fs/pakua.htm Warmest Regards, Cecil

Dear Ann, There are various softwares, where one could try to draw a layout plan:- 1. The most popular is using Microsoft Word and it's built in line art feature in the software. Some users had uploaded the file in word .doc with the sketch of their layout plan. 2. Other paint programs and saving the file as either: .jpg .bmp .gif The above are equally popular formats. 3. Scanner Alternatively, ask a friend for assistance to help you scan it using a scanner and saving it into a floppy disk. (After you have sketched a proper layout). 4. The images you usually see under the Picture Tours were mostly scanned by me using any popular scanners eg. HP scanjet or Canon scanners. Just any other brands would do. Warmest Regards, Cecil

Dear Carol, Apologies, I am unable to comment on `bagua placement' as it is not a proper form of Traditional Feng Shui. Warmest Regards, Cecil

Dear Jeanette, 1. It is good to understand that, as a guide, a missing corner should be one where there is a 33.3 percent missing `area' in a specific sector. Here, the home is sub-divided in 9 equal divisions or a 3 x 3 grid. 2. It is good to examine, whether it is really a missing corner or a protrusion. As different `treatment'/intrepretation is used. 3. If there is a missing corner in the home and the house is a: 3.1 Landed property If it is a landed property, an outline of the `missing area' or boundary can be created outside the house. A top-view will then show that the missing area has been outlined by a boundary. The boundary can be shrubs, fencing or layout on the grass / concrete floor. One can also place pots of plants to form the `missing' outline. 3.2 An apartment/flat/condominium house One way is to install mirrors on the wall(s) to negate the `missing' corners. Some FS practitioners recommend; the placement of a wind chime. However, this should be done with care (after proper assessment). Else, one may use trial and error FS. Otherwise, there are fewer remedies for this. As for "family side" or "creativity side", this is not widely used in Traditional FS. Warmest Regards, Cecil
-
Some FS practitioners, asked their clients to hang wind chimes outside their entrance door, this year. A windchime (or subject to more detailed site analysis) can be hung at bad `yellow' earth sector i.e. the sector with bad earth #5 this year. However, as this is quite general; it should normally be looked at in relation to the 20 year Flying Star of the year. Warmest Regards, Cecil

Dear Suzi, Appreciate if you can elaborate more about the `pooja ghar'. Is it a figurine/statue. And what signficance / does it represent. Regards, Cecil

I have visited the site below and is equally horrified by the cruelty to these poor cats! -------- Start of message ----- Subject: Please save the Bonsai Cat Subject: Pls sign to stop : Bonsai Kittens Date: Wed, 04 Jul 2001 22:30:13 +0800 If only those people will spare a thought for these poor cats. Imagine what if we are the one being kept in those bottle? Sighz ...... To anyone with love and respect for life: (I don't know how people can be so warped to do a thing like this and act as if it is a normal treatment of animals) In New York there is a Japanese who sells "bonsai-kittens". Sounds like fun huh? NOT! These animals are squeezed into a bottle. Their urine and faeces are removed through probes. They feed them with a kind of tube. They feed them chemicals to keep their bones soft and flexible so the kittens grow into the shape of the bottle. The animals will stay their as long as they live. They can't walk or move or wash themselves. Bonsai-kittens are becoming a fashion in New York and Asia. See this horror at: http://www.bonsaikitten.com.
