Dear Anon, I am keen to explore this possibility next year most likely after the April 1999. In order to do so, I would have to for now quickly work complete the much awaited Flying Star Course. In the meantime, I sincerely like to hear from everyone who has a good suggestion what course/seminar they like to see in a program. Warmest Regards, Cecil

Dear Glyn, I am deeply sorry to learn about the fate of both your in-laws. For those who are new to this forum, my grandfather, I believe also died `caused' by another type of "inauspicious layout". The url is: http://www.geomancy.net/fs/grandpa1.htm Warmest Regards, Cecil

Dear Anon, Let me further review what is best under a double 5. Can you let me know what is the base number also. This is because under such circumstances, one should not only simply look at the double 5 without the base number. The reason is the base number is also an element and one has to check to see if it `aids' a 5 or is neutral or reduces the double 5 combination. This concept also applies to reading other star numbers. Thanks in advance. Warmest Regards, Cecil

Dear Elena, Thanks for your continuous words of encouragements both in this forum and privately. 1. The auspicious house numbers is based on the Flying Star Theory. In essence, it is considered a sub-topic of Flying Star for the home. 2. It is good that you asked this series of questions because in Geomancy, there are lots of theories and concepts and each concept covers a specific area. 3. The lesson we can learn here is that if one is keen to understand Geomancy, one should try to learn as many concepts relating to different things as possible. Like Confucious said about Zhou Yi or Book of Changes, he wished he could have lived a further 50 years to understand abit more about it. By the way the Book of Changes is based on the Hexagams or commonly known as I-Ching. I-Ching is more about "destiny." This is also the reason why, Robert and myself like many readers here have a hunger not only to read but understand the thousands of materials relating to Geomancy. 4. In my opinion, the best question we can ask is " What is the purpose and where possible the rationale for such a theory ". 5. The reason for the House Number Numerology under Flying Star is because it is felt that every level in an apartment block differs in it's Qi. This theory only applies to apartments/flats. As mentioned earlier, this is a `secondary' theory and should be considered `last' after an overal Feng Shui audit conducted using all other available FS theories. 6. In most instances, a major renovation would change the `birth chart' of the house. Even so, it is still good to look at the previous period e.g. Period 6 and compare it with Period 7. From my personal experience, having audited quite alot of houses and buildings, majority of the time; after a major renovation, the house changes to the new period. While, occassionally, some houses still adopt Period 6. I also found that although some houses still adopt period 6, but the influence of say period 7 comes in after a year or two. 7. Pillars of Destiny is a complete work of art. It emcompasses many areas and there are many many modules to it. However, under Feng Shui audit, the following two things are `taken' from it:- a. A person's true element and it's strength. For example `Weak Water' person. b. The Luck Pillars. Here, for example one can check whether this period i.e. 1999 is a good year or not for the individual. This is where even if the Flying Star chart for the house is excellent for this period, but a person's personal Luck Pillars is inauspicious. Here, one can than better understand say why I cannot win in a lottery. 8. When you do a Flying Star chart, Robert has factored in the breadwinner's Eight House chart. The Eight House Chart is cross referenced to the Flying Star Chart. 9. Later on, a totally more modern Feng Shui School called Ba Zhi Feng Shui will be included. Usually because of the complexity of linking Flying Star and Ba Zhi Feng Shui, the general advise is to either learn Flying Star or Ba Zhi Feng Shui. More about this school later on. Warmest Regards, Cecil

Dear Madan, When you make use of the Eight House chart, one should also consider the following: 1. Where possible find out what is the intangible force at the main entrance for the breadwinner. It will give you a feel of how suitable the house is. The most unsuitable house is one where the death/disaster intangible force flows through the main entrance door. 2. Do note that the Eight House Theory can tell you your personal best directions to sleep or sleep closer to. In this aspect, Eight House Theory cannot be used to analyse for `cures' or enhancements. 3. A very important aspect is to check the house under the Shapes and Form School. I understand that there is alot of reading materials and materials to `digest' but the Shapes and Form School cannot be overlooked for a house. For example, no matter if a house has excellent Feng Shui in terms of say it's Flying Star Chart, if there is poor Shapes and Form e.g. the front of the house is facing a cemetry, this is not as auspicious. 4. If one is looking at Feng Shui on a very general level, it is best to look at the Shapes and Form School and how suitable for you to your home. 5. For those who want to go further, there are additional theories such as Flying Star and Pillars of Destiny (the element strength and season of influence as deduced from the Luck pillars). 6. For those who do not want to go further, personal feelings or sixth sense can usally be used. However, if one makes too much changes under this, it then becomes `Trial and Error' Feng Shui. In such a situation, do not apply everything at once. If so, you may not be able to `back track' and find out what you did that went wrong. 7. The Eight Aspirations / Associations or Life Associations concept where North = Career is in my personal opinion, too generalised and not personalised to an individual. Dear Anon, In my opinion, this statement is not correct for the following reasons: 1. Under the most common compass school of Feng Shui, there is no mentioned that one cannot do FS e.g. under the Eight House (8 sectors) or Flying Star 24 sectors. Here, there is always directions of reference on SE or NW. 2. Prior to the FS audit, many FS Masters/Practioners are not aware of the direction of a house/office until they visted it. Even if the direction is found to be at NW or SE, house/office audits are done. 3. More importantly, I know a few FS practioners are cautions when it comes to giving advice on a North East house (Devil's Gate) e.g. asking the owners to tilt their door to another auspicious direction. But they still do audit for a NE house given this circumstances. Therefore, in my opinion, Traditional Feng Shui practioners has done audits for NW and SE house. I cannot say for sure, other non Traditional Schools do it or not. Warmest Regards, Cecil

Dear Anon, To understand better, #2 is Strong Earth and #5 is Strong Earth. 2 is sickness and 5 is misfortune. Both combined is very inauspicious. In order to destroy this strong metal combination, ideally one should use Six coins as coins represent metal element and Six represents `Big metal'. A Feng Shui ruler made of copper can help but is considered less effective than six ancient coins particularly those with square holes. Which is a traditional Chinese coin. Ideally, one should use the traditional Chinese copper coin with a square hole at the centre is to ensure that the square gives strength from within to the Chinese `ancient' coins. For the copper ruler, it also depends on how large it is. Although the ancient Chinese copper coins seems difficult to get, it can easily be purchased as it is widely produced. My advise is that it is best to use the `proven' 6 ancient Chinese copper coins. Only at the last resort, you could try to use the ruler. Warmest Regards, Cecil

Dear Anon, Sorry for the delay in replying to this message. I have finally drawn a sketch of the house where death would occur twice. To see this sketch, one has to log in to www.geomancy-forum.com and look under " Photo Tours with picture attachment ". The most recent message. Warmest Regards, Cecil

Enclosed please find a picture of a house where death would occur twice. This is based on the book Yang Zhai Shi Shu

Dear Anon, Both 1 & 8 are considered good combinations. However, even if the stars are good, it also depends on a person's personal luck element and not soley on the Flying star combination. Warmest Regards, Cecil

Dear Anon, A warm welcome to you. If you know how to use a simple graphic program to draw a simple profile of the layout plan, it is best that you post it to the conference: Conference for Attaching layout. Better still if it is a scanned image of your layout plan (not too large) in .jpg or .bmp or .gif format. In this case, I can draw the centrepoint for you and post it to this forum. Thanks in advance. (Else I will try to figure out your description.) If you like you can try out this alternative method:- Step 1: Photocopy an exact layout of your home. Step 2: Paste a copy of the photocopy of the layout plan on a cardboard. Step 3: Cut-out the outline of the house. Step 4: Get hold of a pin and try to balance the house `cut-out' on a pin. The location where the cut-out balances on the pin is the centre of gravity. The above method is the `only' method if you are unable to divide the house into two rectangles. Warmest Regards, Cecil

Dear Ber, Originally, from what I understand that you mentioned that your animal sign is a `Dog'. On the basis of the animal sign `Dog', under Chinese astrology, it's element is Earth. The Chinese astrology dog is based on the Year of birth. Thanks for clarification that you used the online report and it analysed you as a Weak Fire. This makes a " world of difference ' as the online report takes into account all eight pillars. I therefore have to reply on what was given to me. The earlier assumption is based on you as an Earth element person. As you now mentioned that you are a Weak Fire person, yes, the colour green would be suitable for you as it helps weak fire grow. Warmest Regards, Cecil

Dear Anon, In my opinion, to a geomancer, this is like an other `occupational' risks inherent to their occupation. Usually, to eradicate `ghosts or spirits', this would be referred to an appropriate priest/monk etc... The homeowner is the one who has ultimately to make the decision he/she wants to call in. It can be a Catholic priest, a Christina pastor, a Toaist, Buddhist or others such as ghost catchers. The FS practioner can try to advise on how to reduce Yin influences. Like you mentioned if a FS practioner is not well protected, he/she can get sick. In fact, doing FS audits on the wrong dates can cause `harm' to the FS practioner. There are dates where a FS practioner cannot do FS audit. This shows how serious FS in the hand of a FS professional. Warmest Regards, Cecil

Dear Fraser, Please read below:- Glad that you enjoyed the forum. No, Chor Sin or more properly called Zhou Xing - " Sitting Location " is opposite because it is always opposite the facing direction or Xiang Xing - " Facing Location " of the house or where your main entrance door is. In general, the backdoor is not taken into consideration when one is doing a Flying Star. It should be the main entrance door or the door which has the house number. If say, one has a backdoor or another door, one can do a Flying Star chart to find out or select which door is better of the two. Especially if the original main door is not so good. The colours is actually considered like a `marker' or simply just a name such as: Tom, Dick or Harry. For example, stars are called " Purple-White or Zi-Bai 9 Stars. The " colours " given to each of the Stars is simply their name and it is `isolated' and does not represent the Five Elements. This is why you have difficulty matching some unusual colours to the Colours associated with each of the Five elements. Therefore, each of the "star name" when translated as a clour does not really equate to the 5 element colours. For example Zi (star 9) is Purple, however it is Star 9 which is weak Fire. Thus, the colours is related to the element Fire, and not by the name of the star. You are pretty sharp in finding out the discrepancy as to why is there a " 5 Middle Earth". I believe the author is " not aware " that there is no `Middle' situation in the strength of an element in true traditional `cure analysis' when used for analysis purposes. There is either e.g. Weak Fire or Strong Fire. You will not see Professional FS Masters using an unusual term " Mid - Fire " or " Middle Fire ". One also do not use terms such as " Average Fire " etc... The more accurate and correct term is Yang Earth. Which is why when Yang Earth (5) and Yang Earth (2) meets, there is a misfortune. Yang and Yang clash. So far, this is time consuming due to the complexities especially modifications based on the seasons and understanding and linking of various theories, concepts, calendar system etc... This is entirely up to your personal preference. This is because different people have different lucky number. Thus for some 8 may be a good number, but to others it may not be. So this is pretty much how you intend to interpret as lucky or unlucky numbers. There are other unrelated topics such as specialised topics on Gambling etc... Warmest Regards, Cecil

Sometime back, Robert shared with me this observation: It is not advisable to read a book page by page and act on the words as you read each chapter of the book. What happens if the author writes a book with Chapters 1, 2 and 3 saying about a certain theory. If one hastily applies each of the concepts in chapter 1, 2 and 3 (assumming he is the type who reads from chapter 1, 2, 3 in an orderly fashion). What he did not realise is that the author in his final chapter says " Chapter 1, 2 and 3 are available concepts but inauspicious to apply. Oops!! However, he finds them not suitable and in his last chapter gives the reason and the method he feels that is correct. Erh... isn't it too late. Warmest Regards, Cecil P.S. Although, the above to some is `far fetched' look at it this way it can happen. Many a times we read one concept from an author and if another author uses the same words but have a different meaning or idea, does this look similiar? For example, a South House can have different meaning to each author. The morale of the story is: To read the concepts provided by an author totally.. :)

In basic management books, you get to hear this statement: Management by Exception: Managers only act on exceptions and solve these problems. And reserve their efforts doing fruitful things. Feng Shui by Exception? If it ain't broken, don't Fix it. If you have the time, ponder over this statement. Warmest Regards, Cecil P.S. In my opinion, for English readers, if you have read Derek Walter's books, he teaches techniques or provide an understanding of a concept. Such books do not advise anyone to use something in the hope that you become `prosperous'. My stand is also the same. So, have you read books that rather ask you to do this or that?

Dear Users, I understand that there are many new users in this forum. In my personal opinion, there is another way of looking at the " relationship " between Shapes and Form Feng Shui and Compass School Feng Shui. My belief is that if you are more inclined and love to see pictures or illustrations rather than mathematics, more likely you are inclined towards the Shapes and Form School of Feng Shui better than the Compass School. I believe this is usually the case. But there are exceptional people or you could be one who is both comfortable with Shapes and Form and the Compass School. Again, in my opinion, not many come under this classification. What is the purpose, you may ask am I saying all these? Partially, this has to do with whether we are `right-brain' or `left-brained'. One is better at artistic or spatial and while the other in figures, accuracy etc... Similarly, in the US, a university like Harvard is inclined towards the art, written expression such as Human Resource and other humanity subjects. Less of mathematics. On the other spectrum, in my opinion, universites like University of California, has more who are inclined towards mathematics. From my personal observation, if you are good at the `artistic' side or love to see pictures, read the last page first rather then from page 1, most likely the Shapes and Form School appeals more to you. There are those who are less inclined towards `Shapes and Form' will go more towards the mathematical side of Feng Shui e.g. the Flying Star. My observations are as follows:- More inclined towards the mathematics of Feng Shui:- Raymond Lo Master Yu Robert Lee More inclined towards the Shapes and Form School:- Master Yap Cheng Hai Author Lillian Too (I believe I am here) What I mentioned is that one is more `inclined' rather than a continuum of Hot and Cold. So far, no one is at the extreme end i.e. Purely Shapes and Form or Purely Compass School. What I also believe is that: 1. The more, I develops the Shapes and Form, the more, one has a better developed your "sixth sense." For these group who know Compass School can use it to cross check on their feelings. Quite often, I am able to `differentiate' which house I believe is a better house or a specific location is better. 2. It would explain is my belief that for those who were inclined towards Compass School, uses the mathematical side to find out a situation as they are less able to differentiate or use the `sixth sense'. Anyway, this is based on my personal observation which I hope, even if I am proven wrong, is certainly another way of looking at `things'. So are you inclined to be a Shapes and Form Person or a Compass School person? Erh.. no write or wrong answer:) Warmest Regards, Cecil

Dear Sudha, Thanks for taking the time to do a Eight House. 1. Based on your Eight House: N = Longevity NE = Disaster (Currently the door of the house) E = Prosperity SE = Health S = Excellent SW = Irritation W = Spook NW = Death Since SE is the health line, is it possible for your head to face East (Prosperity), South (Excellent), North (Longevity) or SE (Health). These are the sectors your head should face. 2. Another observation is that where possible it is best to sleep with the head rest against a wall rather than on an `island' on its own. 3. You should also watch out for `poision arrows' since there are three cupboards. Look out for the edge of these cupboards. If one or more is pointed towards your bed, this is sha qi. In such a `tight' room, if it is pointed at you, there is really not much you can do. 4. Where one can see the bedroom door and into the kitchen; would result in restless sleep. I am not sure how hot it is at your location. But if it is really `hot', you may not have a choice but to leave the door open. This is considered the `best' of the two alternatives. 5. If you are the breadwinner, in general, the house is considered one of the least suitable to you. 6. Frankly, traditional Feng Shui does not `talk much' about the placement of slippers. Usually, it can be left outside the house or kept neatly in a shoe rack. The shoe rack usually have ventillation holes. In your case, if it is a common practise in your country to leave e.g. the slippers outside the house, it is still acceptable practice. 7. Currently, I am not sure about the effectivness of hanging a Ba Gua mirror; other than for the Chinese. Even many Western Practioners do not practise this especially for their clients in such countries. Furthermore, you must be very careful not to display the Ba Gua mirror inside a home as under Chinese beliefs it will bring Sha Qi. 8. The Four Symbolic Animal Concept is used widely to represent a few concepts. As this is a diagramatic illustation, it is used in a few different situations: a. Under the Shapes and Form School: Here, when you stand at the main entrance facing out of the house, the Dragon is at the East, the Tiger is at the West, the Tortise is at the back of the house and the Bird/Phoenix is at the front of the house. b. Under the Compass School: We add the `element' of colour. Under the compass school, the GREEN Dragon is the EAST, the BLACK Tortise is the NORTH, the RED Phoenix is at the SOUTH, the WHITE Tiger is at the WEST. You will notice that the meaning behind the four animals is different under the Shapes and Form and the Compass School. This is often why many users are confused over above. It is always easier to understand concepts using pictorial representations and I hope, you will understand that many FS Schools use such objects to explain certain concepts easier. But this has in some cases added confusion. Warmest Regards, Cecil

Dear Jojo, If you want to practise 9 Star Ki, it is adviseable not to practise Feng Shui because it has its own `ruleset' and some of the key essence is the same but however, there are still some differences and if one does not know sure of the actual differences, one may end up creating problems for themselves. Basically for Feng Shui is the time for the breadwinner to enter the house is important. As for the direction, which you mentioned, in practical reality, when you travel say on the road, it is most likely that one may turn into an inauspicious direction. Therefore, this rule is not an important rule to take into account in our modern society. Lets look at it this way, we cannot simply travel in a straight line to where ever we want to go. Therefore, although there is logic behind this reasoning, it is no longer practical in our time. The direction of travel is more important for those e.g. taking a flight from one city or country to another. Here, this is a more important point. For example, if it is determined that it is inauspicious for one to travel say from East to West. Here, one should best avoid it. If you understand, 9-Star Ki better, it is best that you stick to the 9-Star Ki advise. However, you believe in the traditional Feng Shui method, stick with just taking into account the time of moving into a house. This is soley up to you. Warmest Regards, Cecil

Dear Jojo, Grateful if you can elaborate further what you mean by wealth stars. This is because traditional Feng Shui do have the mountain and water stars. Mountain star can be activated to improve luck. I can recall many incidents where if the mountain star is activated correctly, can increase the luck element. This site does not discuss on `fixed templates' such as Black Tantric Buddhist or Black Hat Sect or BTB for short. This form of Feng Shui is not recognised by all Traditional FS practioners. The Eight Associations and Eight Aspirations/Life Associations e.g. SW = Romance corner, and North = Career sector; although is an interpetation of each of the 8 Guas or Trigram is too general to be applied as it does not even take into consideration an individual's personal direction. Unlike the Eight House or Flying Star. Warmest Regards, Cecil

Dear Ber, Here is the 12 animal signs and their element + Yin or Yang:- Rat, Water, Yang Pig, Water, Yin Ox, Earth, Yin Tiger, Wood, Yang Rabbit, Wood, Yin Dragon, Earth, Yang Snake, Fire, Yin Horse, Fire, Yang Ram/Sheep, Earth, Yin Monkey, Metal, Yang Rooster, Metal, Yin Dog, Earth, Yang For those who are not sure what the above means, feel free to visit http://www.lovesigns.net (Regarding Chinese Astrology or romanised name is " Zi Wei Dou Shu ". Chinese Astrology in general is the equivalent of the `English Form of' Horoscope. Although they are not identical, both are based on star readings. What is the difference between Zi Wei Dou Shu and Feng Shui? Zi Wei Dou Shu is based on understanding of the characteristics of a certain `person' based on his/her animal sign. It is based on astrology. The difference is that Zi Wei Dou Shu is a reading but it is unlike e.g. the Flying Star where it cannot be used to be a cure or neutralise an imbalance. As you have seen above, I have reduced each animal sign to their 5 element form. Under the 5 element form you will notice that a `Dog' has the Earth element and a Yang creature. We have not considered the season of influence of the Earth element. However, in a very (very) general analysis of the animal signs, Yin is usually considered weaker than Yang. Therefore, a `Dog' (in general terms) since it is a Yang Dog, should be stronger than say a Yin animal. In other words, under the Destructive Cycle under the Five Element Concept, Wood destroys Earth. When wood destroys earth, Earth is weak and considered inauspicious for the Earth (DOG). Here we equate Wood = green colour which is used to destroy Earth (Yang Dog). In fact, based on the Dog = Earth, the element that produces wealth (provided the Dog is a Strong Earth) is not the element (behind it under the Destructive Cycle) but rather the element after it i.e. the Water Element. Here, the element should be strong so that it can destroy the element infront to produce `wealth' i.e. Earth destroys Water to produce wealth. Do take note that if one's element is say Weak Earth, it is too weak to destroy Water to produce wealth. For a "Stronger" Dog, under this analysis, you should instead use blue rather than green. It is an unorthox way of enhancing green (wood) by using metal (white) to destroy it. Usually, instead, wood should be helped by water (blue/grey/black) instead i.e. the bracelet should instead be a combination of say green and blue. Well, this is another way of looking at the use of the five elements by first `breaking' the animal to become Yin/Yang and the type of element i.e. Dog = Yang = Earth. One major flaw of this `theory' is that it is we are assuming the Year stem of a person, I am taking this assumption because it is like knowing one out of the Eight characters of the Pillars of Destiny. This is only to help you understand how one can break down the Chinese Astrology currently based on one Year `stem'. Usually the `Year' pillar under the Pillars of Destiny has both the `stem' and `branch'. Warmest Regards, Cecil

Dear Ber, Please see below:- A clock facing a window is meant to deflect sha qi. If there is no sha qi or poison arrows, the advise is to avoid having it face the window.
