Singapore Improvement Trust plans on Tiong Bahru Estate
Cecil Lee replied to Cecil Lee's topic in Current Affairs & Lifestyle
Tiong Bahru by Keith Ang in association with Visual Arts Centre (VAC) This mural is a colourful interpretation of Tiong Bahru, celebrating the rich history and culture of the neighbourhood. The mural references the distinctive Art Deco style seen in the architecture of the area that dates back to the 1930s. The Singapore Improvement Trust (SIT) flats @ are depicted in bold colours and geometric shapes, capturing the essence of the Art Deco movement. Surrounding the HDB flats are other important landmarks of Tiong Bahru. The iconic Tong Bahru Market 2 , one of the oldest in Singapore, where people go to get fresh groceries and their fix on mouth-watering local cuisines. The Monkey God Temple, with its intricate decorations and ornate architecture, is also featured prominently, as is the Gourd from the Hulu Temple, which was a furnace used for burning joss paper that was located just outside the temple. The mural also pays homage to the neighbourhood's heritage and traditions, with the inclusion of Tan Tock Seng's gravestone and a Guardian Statue from the nearby cemetery. These statues are a common sight in Chinese cemeteries and are believed to protect and watch over the deceased. Large bird cages can be seen in the background, referencing the popular bird corner. The elements of the mural come together to tell the story of Tiong Bahru, a neighbourhood that has evolved over the years but has managed to retain its unique character and charm. -
Apologies for the mistake! The washer should actually be on the left side and the dryer on the right side in this image. Laughing out loud. Source & Credit: APPLYING PURE COMMON SENSE, HERE The original placement plan should have been as follows: +++

Source & Credit: The "Hungry Ghost Festival" is in full swing this month (also known as "Zhong Yuan Jie 中元节" in Mandarin). I am sharing this surviving artefact from Clyde Terrace Market (colloquially known as "铁巴刹 Ti Pa Sat"), which was once Singapore's largest market but no longer exists. The market was particularly vivacious and bustling during the "Zhong Yuan Jie 中元节" celebrations. This wood block with the text "庆中元 Qing Zhong Yuan" carved in reverse was by "再合兴公司 Zai He Xing Gongsi" to be used for the celebrations. This month's "Chinese Yuan Festival" activities are in full swing. Share here an artifact from the Clyde Terrace Market. Tiebar was once Singapore's biggest market, but it's gone. During the festivities of the Zhongyuan Festival, the iron bar is particularly lively, people come and go, bustling. This anti-sculpture "Celebrating Zhongyuan" wood plate belongs to Zhexing Company and is made to celebrate this traditional festival. "The July of the lunar calendar, the iron bar is the most lively. Every night there is a celebration of Zhongyuan's reward show. One iron bar, there are two organizations celebrating the Zhongyuan Festival. One is called a big company, composed of iron barrachan stores, the other is called a small company, composed of fish and meat vendors, large companies and small companies. The former is a Chaozhou theater class, such as old saigao, Xinrong and old one incense. The latter is invited by the Yu Opera class, such as the new Sai Feng and Yan Xia Theatre Troupe. Most probably my last few purchases… As McDonald’s is closing down all their McCafe. I don’t really like their breakfast… so eat elsewhere… and chill with a cup of coffee before my next appointment.
