myfs_138056
Hi Recently, my neighbour hangs a Ba Gua mirror(see picture attached) facing directly to my main door. I understand from some friends that this may be inauspicious for me and I should get some fengshui items to counter this. Appreciate your advice on this:- 1) Is it inauspicious for me and my family with a Ba Gua mirror facing directly our main door? 2) What should I do to counter this? It will be useless to ask my neighbour to remove as they will not agree. Thanks. Jeslin
Staff Cecil Lee Posted February 7, 2009 Staff Share Posted February 7, 2009 1. For reference, most types of ba gua mirror can be found under this link.2. Your neighbour's ba gua mirror is different from the rest of the mirrors found under Para 1.3. Before we go into your neighbour's ba gua mirror, more about the use of the Luo Pan or (Chinese compass) as found in the middle of your neighbour's ba gua mirror.4. As most of us know, the Luo Pan is used mainly by Geomancers like myself. There are chiefly two types: The "San He" which has the 24 directions and is used in harmony with Heaven-Earth-Human. While there is another type known as "San Yuan" - more towards the I-Ching (64 combinations of hex symbols).5. Can the "Luo Pan" be placed in a home? 5.1 Here, there are two ways to place a Luo Pan : Horizontally or Vertically.5.2 When placed horizontally, it is often used to detect and deter evil spirits.5.3 When placed vertically, it is meant to "absorb" or meant more for "auspicious" wealth.5.4 In fact, in ancient times, some Feng Shui masters practise the installation (burying) of a ba gua mirror especially in the middle of some homes. (Based on certain calculations used).5.5 In the past, some Feng Shui masters even ask their clients to place a luo pan below the altar. This is said to increase the "strength" of the God e.g. akin to taking viagra ! 6. Your neighbour's ba gua with the Luo pan in the middle. It does not matter if the Luo pan is either the San He or San Yuan or other variations. The fact that there is a luo pan in the middle and as mentioned under Para 5.3, ie. the Luo Pan is in the vertical position, it is meant to create auspiciousness for the owners (neighbours) and not used so much as to deter "deflect" evil spirits. Only Luo Pans placed horizontally is meant more to deter "evil spirits...7. Ba Gua "mirror" war. It is a double edged sword if you were to place a ba gua mirror especially if both your unit (apartment) doors are directly facing each other. 8. By placing the ba gua mirror WITH the Luo pan in the centre, is technically to your neighbour placing an equivalent "concave" mirror to suck wealth. Since I had mentioned that the Luo Pan placed vertically is suppose to "create auspiciousness" for the owners as it faces your unit.9. Unfortunately, it would be better if your neighbour had those normal ba gua's e.g. with qi lin (chi lin) or no mirror more for protection. 10. Frankly, no matter how, if you were to place a "similar" mirror, above your door it will be a lose-lose situation:-You could place a Concave mirror. You could place a Convex mirror. In your home, either can be used. But the concave would be better choice given that it is a REAL mirror vs a symbolic Luo Pan (that sucks wealth). Thus in a ba gua war, the concave mirror would overall be ahead of the Luo Pan. However, if you place a convex mirror, it may prevent good qi from coming into your home, while it takes care of the neighbour's ba gua by deflecting it. This is more of a lose-lose for both. When your neighbour decide to change to a convex mirror and you are using a concave mirror, then both will neutralise each other - square 1 situation. If both use concave mirror i.e. you keep your concave and your neighbour replaces his/her bagua luo pan with a concave, then this is a lose-lose situation. If so, you can change to a convex mirror instead. Thus Yin and Yang in balance so long as both mirrors are of the same size. If one is larger then again the complication of which is "stronger" follows!Honestly, these are some of the repercussions, you have to consider. Else, if you don't often open your door, then, may just "bite the bullet" and leave it as it is.
myfs_138056
Thank you very much for your advice Mr Cecil Lee.Based on your reply, the ba gua my neighbour is using is meant more for the purpose of auspicious wealth. It is not meant to detect and deter evil spirits. As such, it will not be inauspicious for my family and will not cause any harm to us. We do not need to take any further measures against it for protection.Kindly confirm my understanding and correct me if I am wrong.Wishing you a great year ahead.Thank you. Staff Cecil Lee Posted February 8, 2009 Staff Share Posted February 8, 2009 1. To clarify, the Luo Pan on the centre of the ba gua is meant more to generate "auspicious wealth" for the owners. One good point is that it does not have a mirror especially a conCAVE mirror which is suppose to "suck wealth". Thus, you have roughly sum up what I had mentioned earlier.2. I did not mentioned fully of the entire Ba Gua mirror on the whole, as I was focusing just on the Luo Pan in your neighbour's ba gua mirror.3. In fact, the FULL mirror with the Ba Gua Trigrams on the outside serves to "protect" the owners from so called "evil or wondering spirits". Thus if we put both the Luo Pan and the ba gua mirror with the trigram, then it serves TWO purposes:-3.1 Suppose to create wealth (Luo pan in a vertical 90 degrees angle). And in addition, the Trigram on your neighbour's Ba Gua mirror is meant as a "protection" from so called evil spirits. My earlier message was focused was simply to explain the Chinese luo pan (on it's own).Quote:Jes L. wrote:Based on your reply, the ba gua my neighbour is using is meant more for the purpose of auspicious wealth. Staff Cecil Lee Posted February 8, 2009 Staff Share Posted February 8, 2009 1. Please refer to this link:- http://www.geomancy.net/resources/art/art-pakua.htm 2. All Ba Gua (Pakua) mirrors should be using the First Heaven Sequence Trigram. 3. Your neighbour's Ba Gua is also using the First Heaven Sequence Trigram. And it is often (said) used as an amulet. To scare away "Chinese , Mongolian spirits" Not sure, whether it can be effective with a "christian or other race - spirits, thou".... So far, no one should be using a Ba Gua mirror (with the Later Heaven Sequence) as this is used more with Yang Geomancy or for the living only. 4. In addition, your neighbour's ba gua mirror, usually should have a "talisman or charm" on it. 5. Therefore, your neighbour's ba gua mirror is said to serve two fold:- Protection (8 trigram symbols on the outer side of the ba gua)and Wealth Enhancement (Luo Pan in the middle). 6. Normally, older greenish ba gua mirror comes with a centre flat mirror. This centre mirror is an added insurance, for protection. As it is suppose to let the "spirit" see an image of itself, get scared and run - off! Sucks! 7. In the 1960's to 1970's, the tone of the mirror is greenish. In modern times most of the ba gua mirror comes in the shade ofyellowish (golden) like your neighbour's one. 8. Some homes use this type of semi-circular floor tile area to act as a modern "Ba gua". Symbolic if a curved knife (top down view) slicing away from the home - as a protection. Thus even if the neighbour places a ba gua mirror, you already have a protection. (However, this addition may be considered "illegal" as it does occupy some of common corridor space. (Don't get caught or some one complaint will do). Reference link:-http://wiki.geomancy.net/wiki/Semi-circulating_entrance_feature 9. Better still, there is another "technique" known as a "nose" or "protuding nose", please check out the attachment "CIRCLED in RED." Here,if ONLY thicker material(s) like granite or marble is used at the front entrance area, it can protude out a little i.e. a "nose" much like a "an edge of a knife" or symbolic of a "karate chop" below the main entrance area. This serves as a "silent" protection in-case a neighbour places a ba gua mirror of any kind above their door. This"straight" method can be combined withthe "illegal" Para 8, or simply used alone ... in a straight line "nose" effect. These are modern symbolic methods of "stealth mode" protection... coupled with a slight raised "platform" as shown in the attachment.
myfs_138056
Thank you foryour clarifications.Based on your reply,my neighbour'sba gua mirror serves two purposes, mainly protection and wealth.Besides adopting your solutions mentioned in point 8 & 9,are there any other simpler solutions to adopt? There are no conflicts between my family and my neighbours so I do not wish to create ba gua war with them. My intention is just to adopt measures to protect my family if my neighbour's ba gua mirror should create some bad impact on my family. Are there any feng shui items I can placed somewhere near my main door to act as a protection against my neighbour's ba gua mirror?Thank you for your time and hope to receive your reply. Thanks.
