Welcome to Pillars of Destiny Discussion,
Feel free to post any queries you have about regarding this topic.
To start the discussion going, I am posting a brief introduction of what is Pillars of Destiny and two of the uses of the Pillars of Destiny.
Brief Introduction about Pillars of Destiny:-

    1. Pillars of Destiny is also known by the following names, 4 Pillars, ba zi, ba zi ming li, ba zi ming yun.
    2. What is Pillars of Destiny used for?
      a. To find your True Birth Element.
Your True Birth Element is useful in determining the cures required to activate a particular direction. eg. a wind chime is needed to rectify the location, wind chime comes with different element. So knowing what is your Birth Element, you can apply the correct Wind Chime Element.
      b. To Determine your 80 Year Luck Period.
If all the 80% of the 80 Year luck period shows that you are in good period, then you are a person who will enjoy good life.
It can also be used to determine if a particular period is not so good for you, therefore you need to correct or enhance that period to get the best of your life.

You can try out a Free Report version of the Pillars of Destiny under the Report Management at http://www.geomancy-online.com.
Warmest Regards

Dear Glyn,
There are altogether something like 10 stars or so called deities (5 direct and 5 indirect). This can be later used to analyses what kind of wealth you have in your Eight Characters of Birth and how much these deities can assist you in your life.
Each will allow you to check for say marriage, wealth and more. However, you need to analyse it with several the luck pillars and the normal chart in order to determine the what you are looking for.
These Analysis will be available in future version of the Pillars of Destiny Report.

Hi, Robert & Cecil. I found out from my Pillars of Destiny that I'm of weak fire nature, the other "pillars" consist of 2 woods, 4 water, 1 earth and 0 gold. Apparent, I'm being "drowned out" by 4 water elements (2 from the Month stem and branch, 1 from the Year stem, and 1 from the Day branch. Luckily, I do have 2 woods (1 from the Hour stem and 1 from the Year branch) to strengthen my fire. But, it's still 4 water to 2 wood. How do you interpret the 1 earth element? I happen to live in a West facing/metal house based on 8-house theory, but according to this theory, I'm a NE person. By the way, my husband is also fire in nature and is a East-house person. I know we should live in a south facing home for best result, but we just bought this "metal" home, I hope you can advise me that it's not so detrimental. Also, how do I best enhance my "fire" nature? Oh, one more question: The previous owner of this home just replaced the roof (just replaced the shingles, no structure change)in 1997, do I count this as a new birthday for the home (period 7). This will make a difference in assessing the home as this house was originally built in Period 6 or prior to 1984. Many thanks for your generous advice!!

Hi, Robert & Cecil. I found out from my Pillars of Destiny that I'm of
weak fire nature, the other "pillars" consist of 2 woods, 4 water, 1 earth
and 0 gold. Apparent, I'm being "drowned out" by 4 water elements (2 from
the Month stem and branch, 1 from the Year stem, and 1 from the Day branch.
Luckily, I do have 2 woods (1 from the Hour stem and 1 from the Year branch)
to strengthen my fire. But, it's still 4 water to 2 wood. How do you
interpret the 1 earth element?

From your Pillars of Destiny it does indeed look like a weak fire.
2 wood feeds your fire helping it to grow.
4 water will destroy your fire.
1 earth will destory the water.
Overall, your fire looks weak. This analysis is taken based on the natural
cycle of birth and destruction.
Please note that there are two situation which may cause the reading to
change:-
1. Element strength's - Sometimes the reading may change a little, for
example of your fire under the current season of birth is Strong or
Strongest. Then the water element would possibly be weakest or weak.
Although there are 4 it may just balance off because your Strong Fire is
able to resist the destruction caused by the 4 water.
2. Any thriple combinations or double combinations of Heavenly Stem or
Earthly Branches - These may combine together and change your pillars'
element.
So maybe here you might like to clarify the strength's of each element and
any combinations as these would be important to determining the actual
intensity of the 4 Water. Before confirming how serious the 4 water is
affecting you. If you have generated the full report, simply let us know
what are the element strengths and any combinations.
In any case, too much water shows an unbalanced combination of element and
no metal element shows an unbalanced combination in your Pillars. Under any
theory, the balance of the elements are important so given that your pillars
are unbalanced. Take your body for example, too much carbohydrate is not
good right? Alternatively, not enough carbohydrate is also bad as you will
be too weak.
Thus, you will need to apply some cures to yourself. You can make use of the
Five Element cures, see what are the cures that you can use for weak fire.
You can do so in the Report Management.
Generally, for weak fire element, fire or wood is definately good, also
anything that can destroy your water such as earth is also good for you. You
can use personal cures such as wearing a colour that is good of your eg. red
for fire, green or brown for wood. For more details use the Five Element
cure module.

I happen to live in a West facing/metal house based on 8-house theory, but
according to this theory, I'm a NE person. By the way, my husband is also
fire in nature and is a East-house person.

The Eight House theory gives you a personal direction which is good for each
you. You will notice that there are 4 good and 4 bad. The most important is
that the main door for the breadwinner should fall under the any of the 4
good (the best would be the excellent) direction.
Then the next most important application for the Eight House theory to your
home, is your health and longevity should be located in the rooms you are
sleeping in.
You can also apply this theory to the direction which you are sleeping or
working.
In terms of determining whether the house is actually good for you or not,
the Flying Star is more important as it will tell you the Feng Shui of your
house.

Quote
I know we should live in a south facing home for best result, but we just
bought this "metal" home, I hope you can advise me that it's not so
detrimental. Also, how do I best enhance my "fire" nature?

Metal for your fire is actually your wealth. However, you are not a strong
fire so you can't control it, which means that you will probably be burdened
by it. Metal does destroy your good which in both your case (if you are weak
wood) may not be good. But in any case, this would also depends on the Feng
shui of the house.

Quote
Oh, one more question: The previous owner of this home just replaced the
roof (just replaced the shingles, no structure change)in 1997, do I count
this as a new birthday for the home (period 7). This will make a difference
in assessing the home as this house was originally built in Period 6 or
prior to 1984. Many thanks for your generous advice!!

In this case, this is considered more as a repair then a major renovation.
But other parts of the building is still untouch right? In that case, just
take is as the original date it was built.
Before you take any action to cures or improve your Feng Shui, I recommend
you check out the various queries to confirm your birth element first as
that is very important for any other interpretation or deduction in case you
really need to apply any cures.
Warmest Regards
Robert Lee

Thanks, Robert for your speedy reply! Unfortunately, I was born in late Lunar October, not good season for fire. However, I do have 2 harmonious combinations: The first one: Jia (yang wood under birth Hour/heavenly stem) with chen (yang earth under Hour/earthy branch)and mao (yin wood under Year/earthly branch). The 2nd combo which is supposed to bring me good luck in the winter season is: Double kui (both yin water under Month/heavenly stem and Year/heavenly stem) with double hai (both yin water under Month & Day/earthly branch) Now looking back, I think I did enjoy luck during winter as a couple of my job promotions happened in late November. I however, I don't know for sure how seasons are divided based on the lunar system; i.e, in North America, winter officially starts on December 21 even if we have had lots of snow on the ground already by then! How do you determine whether an element is strong or weak? Does yang equate "strong" and yin equate "weak"? In that case, my only fire (which is my nature as it's right on the heavenly stem of the day of birth) is yin fire, the 2 wood I have are 1 yang 1 yin, all 4 water are yin water, and the one earth element is yang. Totally, I have 6 yin, 2 yang, another area of imbalance! I'm already aware and try to apply the color scheme to support my fire element, but will check out the module for five element cures for other things, thank you! Are you suggesting that a metal house in general is good for a fire person as metal represents "wealth"? However, as I'm a weak fire person, this house will "burden" me? What does this mean? As I'm a weak fire person, is a south facing house my only option? Thanks so much for your time!

Thanks, Robert for your speedy reply! Unfortunately, I was born in late
Lunar October, not good season for fire.

If I am not mistaken, that is Autumn and not Winter, under the lunar
calendar,

Quote

late November.

Actually, I wasn't refering to the heavenly and earthly combinations. These
combinations from Heavenly and Earthly will signify good luck, etc.
I was taking about the various 3 earthly branches combination, which
completely changes the element. For example hai-mao-wei, when these three
element are available, it will change your base element say
Water-Earth-Earth, to produce 3 Fire combination. Or even 2 earthly branches
and 2 heavenly branches combination. Some of these combination will complete
change your base element.
These were the combination I was looking for. The heavenly and earthly
combinations will help in the analysis of your overall luck but does not
affect any of the elements.

Quote
I however, I don't know for sure how seasons are divided based on the lunar
system; i.e, in North America, winter officially starts on December 21 even
if we have had lots of snow on the ground already by then!

Actually, if you noticed that if you take the Western Calendar this date is
contantly changing some times will come eariler or even later. The Lunar
calendar (with the heko if the Xia calendar) has always been very accurate
in determining the exact date and month which the represents the new season
for the months. And is it that kind of exact and predictable calculation
taken by the Feng Shui Theories which allows this theory to work even until
today:)

Quote
How do you determine whether an element is strong or weak?

As mentioned you eariler, in order to determine if you are strong or weak,
requires you to take in several factors. It is for this complex calculation
and possible analysis error, which made me decide to created the Pillars of
Destiny Program. The report and analysis generated from the report can then
be used to focus on what kind of luck you have, what kind of wealth, using
it to find appropriate cures for fixing problem areas etc.

Quote
Does yang equate "strong" and yin equate "weak"? In that case, my only

No. There is no such thing. Yin and Yang can also be both strong and weak,
and can also changes (eg. too much yang changes to yin and vice versa). The
yin and yang combinations like the heavenly and earthly mostly used for
analysis characteristics etc.
There are many Pillars of Destiny Books out there, and I have seen many that
actually does not tell you the importance of certain analysis and how to use
these to analyse certain aspect such as wealth, marriage. Many of the
analysis normally do not apply every set of rules in actually determine the
most accurate birth element as it is a very tedious process to do manually.
I remember a Feng Shui Master which my Grandpa did for my father, took a few
weeks and the result was a thick book (50 pages or more) analysing both the
birth element and the 60 year luck period. But do you know what? My father
told me most of the prediction never came true. Why? the month calcuated by
the master was completely off. Thus a totally different interpretation was
the result. In fact out of curiosity, I generated on using the completed
report (that time was v2.3 report). To my surprise, the luck period analysed
happen to give a rather accurate of the account of problems and good period
which he had encounter. Thus, it was after then, which I decided to make the
program analyse more deeply and even up to an accuracy of 5 year period
rather then 10 year period.
Thus, you can see that in order to properly analyse any Feng Shui theories,
knowing the actual formula and where and when to use it is very important,
as different Feng Shui Theories are used for different purpose, using it
blindly can be very dangerous. To date, from what I understand is that in
order to provide the most accurate result a Feng Shui Master must actually
apply many of the theories together to get the most accurate results.
For this reason, we have come up with the various modules in the Report
Management for users to use and combine together to perform an accurate Feng
Shui Audit. I am of course constantly trying to improve and add more modules
to help users.

Quote
Are you suggesting that a metal house in general is good for a fire person
as metal represents "wealth"? However, as I'm a weak fire person, this house
will "burden" me? What does this mean? As I'm a weak fire person, is a
south facing house my only option? Thanks so much for your time!

This is one of the theory in Pillars of Destiny whereby fire destroy your
metal, it represents that metal is your weath deity or star etc.
If you are weak Fire, you will not be able to control the deity or
indirectly you will not be able to full control your wealth. Instead, you
will be burdened by it (for example, end up having to say constantly pay
bills for repairs, pay fines, medical bills, etc).
If you are Strong Fire, you will overpower your wealth star, as such you
have better control over your wealth, meaning that you are able to save
money, invest wisely and let your money grow etc.)
These is generally how this can be interpreted. This can be for your
additional information. Furthermore, as mentioned Metal will destroy Wood,
which you will end up with little supporting element for your fire.
However, the most important aspect for the house is not this, but the
constantly movement of the flying star which can mean that at certain year,
in certain months certain stars may clash which will bring you some bad luck
etc.
But generally, when we apply especially the 20 year flying star, what you
should see is how is the Feng Shui of the house, if you have a house that
has a main door of say double 7 (in the period 7). Then, you will find that
the house will bring you extremely good luck and wealth, even if the house
may not suit your element directly. Furthermore, the funitures which you
have put in, may also influence and change or enhance certain elements which
you lack.
So, due to so many reasons and cure available, it does not mean that you
have to change to any house for better luck. Maybe sometimes you just need
to apply a few cures and enhancers (protectors). For example, in the Flying
Star Chart, your SW sector is influenced by a mountain star, then all you
need to do is to put an object with a some mass (like a stone paper weight)
on the shelf in that direction. This will enhance and improve the Feng Shui
of your house.
There are many people who after fixing the problem areas, and enhancing
mountain areas, within a few days to 1 week, their luck started to change,
etc. But most importantly, is to apply correct cures and enhancements.
Warmest Regards
Robert Lee

Thanks so much for your reply! I did my pillars of destiny from Evelyn Lip's book "Personalize Your Feng Shui", I also read three other books on FS, so I realize that my knowledge is very limited. Learning FS has been an exciting journey so far, even if it has only been a few months for me. I will visit your report management center as soon as my finance improves as I'd like extensive and comprehensive interpretations. I want to do readings for ALL my family members, which will be quite an undertaking. Meanwhile, I truly appreciate your kind help and time! God bless!

Yes, Feng Shui is an exiciting and fastinating subject. The only problem is
so far from what I know most of the books out there does not teach you lots
of important application and certain important calculation or application
needed to get the most accurate results. They may teach you the basic
calculation and you are left on your own for the analysis portion.

No problem, you are welcome. There are lots of useful tool at the Report
Management for different applications in Feng Shui. We will still be adding
more modules and enhancements to the existing modules, so feel free to use
it whenever you need to. These tools can quickly and accurately calculate
the necessary reports so that you can concentrate on the cures and enhancers

Hi, Robert! Can you recommend some Pillar of Destiny books which might shed some lights on the stem and branch combinations? Evelyn Lip's book only mentioned the "lucky/harmonious combinations" briefly. I'd like to learn more about this. Thanks! Also, my father just recently opened a business in L.A., California and everything seems to be working out so far. Since I'm a worrywart and now that I discovered Feng Shui, I think the reason which he had failed so many times in the past (at running a business) was perhaps because he has been living in a wrong apartment. This of course might have been attributed to poor management strategies, not enough resources, and wrong timing for a particular business in the market. I'm just so worried for him that this might end up the same way even though he seems to have pulled things together well. I did a pillars of destiny analysis for him (as best I could) and it seems that he's into a pretty lucky period of his life, but I don't understand all the combination stems and branch well, so I might be wrong. Now that I found out that he is a "fire" nature person, should I try to persuade him to move into a south facing place as this will at least be a good start (the current apt. is not in a very good neighborhood anyway and I've always thought that the lightings and everything seem dreary and there's an iron fence entrance door that makes you feel like you're living in a prison, but all the houses around that area also have iron fence doors). What's your opinion? Do you think my fears might have FS related grounds? Do you know of any genuine FS practicianer in the LA area whom he can consult? And, by the way, I'm looking forward to reading your materials on the FS for business. As always, thank you for your time and attention!

I have seen very little books written in English that actually explains to
you about every aspect of Pillars of Destiny. Evelyn Lip's was one of the
few which actually has some explanation about it, another one which you
might like to take a look is Raymond Lo's book. However, most of the good
Pillar of Destiny books which I have seen are written in Chinese.

Glad to know that your father is doing well.
Just for your information. For business, the Feng Shui of the Office is
important in terms of the business prosperity. For Home, it has more to do
with your health. However, it will also has some implications to the
personal wealth. These can be easily determined with the Flying Star plus the
Eight House of the owner.

Quote

Yes, there are lots of other factors involved when you apply feng shui to
business.

Quote

that he's into a pretty lucky period of his life, but I don't!

Actually, the uses of the Pillars is more for the Birth Element and the Luck
Period. I believe at current stage your luck period is a ten-year reading
right? This provides a huge gap of ten years for an auspicious year and a
non-auspicious year. There is actually a 5 year reading + a directional luck
reading which will affect your luck period in a great way.
Furthermore, it is not so simple that just because the luck period says that
it is a good period, you will definately be in a good period. Sometimes you
need to activate some personal cures in order for it to work. Also, you may
sometime have to check the feng shui of the office (especially since you
mentioned that your father has his own business), the activate the enhancers
and cures for this area so that this will enhance both your business luck as
well as personal luck.

(Out of Feng Shui) Actually, for a house, besides using the Flying Star,
there is some kind of "gut" feeling which you can trust. Do you ever noticed
that sometimes you go a place, you just don't feel comfortable? Well if you
do, it can tell you that something is just not right. So you may be right in
this area, but it not a Feng Shui theory. Just your own personal feeling.
(which I might add can sometimes be quite accurate)
The best way to see if a house it good or not is to use either the Eight
House or an accurate reading using the Flying Star Chart. These are tools
meant for house evaluation.
Pillars is more for personal evaluation, but the usefulness of it is the
determining of the True Brith Element, and the Luck Periods. (which I might
added, suprisingly for many users who had tried it, was able to tell the
good and bad periods rather accurately)

Maybe you like to check at this site Feng shui Institute of America. Sorry,
forgot the url, so you might like to search for it on yahoo search engine.
