Hi,
I and my husband have just moved into new rental property. few months later, the agent informed us to grant access for valuation people to assess the property. When asked, the agent can't confirm if the landlord is going to sell the property, claiming that he is still considering.
Here's the complicated part, we have been actively trying for a baby and should this place be sold to new owner, who may intend to move in, we would have to move out by January or Feb next year. I could be pregnant by then. I am well aware that moving while pregnant is not a good idea.
We are now agonising over few options. One is to take action now and terminate the contract (of which we have financial repercussions) and move to somewhere else.
Secondly, I have been advised to stay put while waiting for landlord's decision and set up second home and bed at my parents-in-law place. The notion is to have second home and bed there. That way, if the new owner kick us out from the apartment, my husband can pack and move everything to my in-law's garage.
My questions are:
1. Is the setting up second home and bed at in-law place a good idea?
2. If that option was taken, can the old bed be used again by us or it has to be given away?
3. any other ideas is welcome, we are at our wit's end with this.
Thanking you
Fionn

These are some considerations:
1. The good news is that you are not the first person or persons to face such a dilemma or situation.
2. This has more to do with beliefs or Chinese belief: that if one moves one's bed during pregnancy, then may lead to miscarriage.
3. Thus, there are many who were in your position before.
3.1 Since the idea is not to move the bed during pregnancy; the most common method is that should one move out of the rented place, the pregnant lady should not or no longer enter that bedroom; that's all.
3.2 Since it is a rented home, most likely the pregnant lady would not need to go into that bedroom anymore.
3.3 Even if one removes an existing bed; again, the pregnant lady don't see it being moved and placed in the new home be it at the in-law's place.
3.4 Thus under Para 3.3, there is often no need to give up that bed. Alternatively, if one wants to buy a new bed or sleep on an existing bed (don't move it) at in-laws is still acceptable.
4. There are many others who, face similar situation e.g. rent is up or sold home and need to vacate it. Again, you are not alone. Others have done similar things or situation.
So what is there to be at wit's end? As all these things would further add to the burden on your first OBJECTIVE!
Good Luck!

Similar concern:-

New home and "Do we need to take note of anything due to my wife pregnancy?"

Reply:-

1. Based on general Chinese customs; to avoid moving the existing bed of conception.

2. If you need to move the bed, Mrs must not see the move and later, should not visit the bedroom and see that it is moved.

2.1 The above is the most important Chinese consideration.

3. Thus visiting the new home to collect keys etc.. is a non issue. But, once a while some parents tell their daughter in law cannot do so. etc.. But this is more of the conservative side.

2.2 Also do check with parents. As some parents have additional taboos if any. As different elders have different concerns.

3. Another common sense is that during the move; best that Mrs stay away especially if heavy furniture and items are moved.
