Staff Cecil Lee Posted November 24, 2016 Staff Share Posted November 24, 2016 Please note that the unit has limited "real-estate space to place an altar. Assuming it is a Guan Yin altar, then: 1st choice are either A or B. But do take note that since these locations are close to the bedroom; and if one lights up incense whole day long and if family members are at home most of the time e.g. a retired parent e.g. mum... then concern for lung cancer. Avoid placing altar along the RED line area i.e. facing into the bedroom unless it is at D. Unfortunately, location D and E would eat into either the TV or sofa seating area. And avoid the altar too close to the TV set or hifi unit if on the same wall. Last resort for say a Guan Yin altar is marking E facing towards the main door. But if it is also facing another unit's main door. Some neighbours may consider it a threat and place a ba gua mirror above their main door. Guan Gong is acceptable at marking E. Staff Cecil Lee Posted November 24, 2016 Staff Share Posted November 24, 2016 If some how, there is an "oversized" wall, then location marked in purple X may be another consideration.
Guest mw66
Dear Master, Many thanks and appreciate for your great advice. Indeed, there is space constraint issue to place an altar at this unit. In this case, ased on your suggestion, we would most likely go for location B. However, for location B, is it advisable for us to place a sofa just beside the Guan Yin Altar? We have a concern that putting a sofa just next to the Altar might accidentally or unintentionally offend Guan Yin as we will be seated just next to Guan Yin. On the other hand, is it also possible for us to place a TV console next to the Guan Yin Altar on the same side of the wall with a vase (intentionally) placed between the TV set and the altar so as to avoid the altar being placed too close to the TV set? Is there a recommended separation distance such that the altar could still be placed next to the TV set? Many thanks in advance.

mw66
Dear Master, Please kindly advise if we are able to place our sofa set just next to the Guan Yin Altar at location B? Is it disrespectful for anyone who is seated down on the sofa just next to the Guan Yin Altar? According to HDB's suggested design layout for the unit, the entire stretch of wall at locations B & C is meant for the placement of sofa set and the opposite wall is meant for the placement of TV console. Many thanks in advance.

Staff Cecil Lee Posted May 20, 2022 Staff Share Posted May 20, 2022 Sometimes an altar location may be possible or feasible. But bear in mind, when lighting joss sticks, the fumes may engulf one or more bedrooms. There are instances where prolonged inhaling of such fumes may not be healthy. In some circumstances even lead to cancer of the lungs.
