chua
Hi, understand it’s not advisable to renovate during 7th month. I would like to check if it’s fine to renovate during Qing Ming? Thanks!
Staff Cecil Lee Posted February 2, 2018 Staff Share Posted February 2, 2018 1.. From my perspective, it is essential to fully grasp the significance of Qing Ming (or honoring the deceased ancestor(s)). 2. Typically, Qing Ming is the specific day or time frame when it is traditional to pay respects to one's ancestors. 3. This year, the exact date of Qing Ming falls on April 5th, 2018. 4. Nevertheless, for many individuals, taking time off on Thursday, April 5th, 2018 to visit or pray to loved ones may not be feasible. 5. Hence, for practical purposes, some people choose to visit their loved ones approximately one week before or after April 5th, 2018. 6. Reflect on the above. What relevance do home renovations have with Qing Ming? 6.1 The most apparent link is that one might be too engrossed in renovations to spare time for paying respects! 6.2 Excuse me! You are not the contractor! You should have some time to pay respects, correct? 7. If one has a tradition of visiting an ancestor's grave or niche, it is recommended to do so before starting renovations. 8. If one is also feeling guilty, then visit them either on or before renovations (if the renovation commences or falls within this period). 9. Frankly, how can carrying out renovations in a new home result in being branded as a "dishonorable kin"? How does this upset one's ancestors? It goes against logic and rationale. P.S. Moreover, if one has never visited on Qing Ming, then all the more reason why this should not affect them at all. In such a scenario, who are you going to disappoint or cause distress to? Staff Cecil Lee Posted March 12, 2018 Staff Share Posted March 12, 2018 Case Study: I am unsure about the length of Qing Ming. Certain references indicate that it spans 10 days prior to and following the official date, whereas others mention "One week before and one week after." 1. This year, Qing Ming will occur on Thursday, April 5th, 2018. 2. Qing Ming can occur on either April 4th or April 5th in different years. 3. A logical reason for the complexity of Qing Ming is as follows: 3.1. Many people find it difficult to visit their ancestors on a weekday like Thursday due to practical reasons. 3.2. This difficulty may arise from work commitments or conflicting schedules with other family members. 3.3. For example, even if one family member can visit on that day, children may have school, a spouse may have work, or there may be childcare responsibilities. 4. Hence, a practical solution is to consider Qing Ming as a week before and a week after April 4th or 5th. Why? 4.1. By following this approach, individuals can plan visits to their ancestors a week earlier on weekends or the following weekend if they cannot do so on the actual date. 4.2. This explanation aims to clarify the reasoning behind the concept of "One week before and One week after Qing Ming." 5. It is recommended to refrain from proposing a month before or after Qing Ming, as it might be excessively cautious. This could result in unnecessary limitations and inconveniences. Staff Cecil Lee Posted March 16, 2019 Staff Share Posted March 16, 2019 Avoid turning your home into a generic Feng Shui store. Authentic Feng Shui is not represented in this manner. This is not genuine Feng Shui.
Staff Cecil Lee Posted March 27, 2019 Staff Share Posted March 27, 2019 Question: Hi Master Cecil..during Qingming .. can we proceed to open the door? Reply: Qing Ming falls on the 5th of April this year (2019). If you plan to pay your respects, make sure to do so before the gates open. Question: normally we dun go to qingming.. cos my kids are still young.. is our parents will go.. hence do we need them to go first before we open the door? Reply: If Qing Ming is not necessary for you, then it is not a concern. It's similar to being expected to visit, but willingly choosing not to, then "they will be angry". How can they be angry with you if you never participate in Qing Ming?
Staff Cecil Lee Posted March 10, 2020 Staff Share Posted March 10, 2020 Question: Hi Cecil, check with you, can I go for Qing Ming during this period before I moved in to my new house? This is indeed the optimal resolution. Note: Matrix = actually should instead be replaced by Matriarch of the family. iPhone somehow changed what was typed.. Staff Cecil Lee Posted March 11, 2022 Staff Share Posted March 11, 2022 Hi Mr Lee, there is some belief that we can’t move house during qing ming. Is the practice usually cannot move 1 week before qing ming or 10 days before? Does not matter what is the range. If you need to move in around Qing Ming. If u need to go and pray, then pray .. and move in any time after prayiing. How can the ancestors fault if one has prayed to them? So it does not matter if it is 7 days, 1 week, 2 weeks Based on common sense For example, if one has already paid one's respects to the ancestors. Why does it matter when one moves in after this date? How to offend the ancestors from then onwards? Don't the ancestors understand this?
