Staff Cecil Lee Posted July 30, 2018 Staff Share Posted July 30, 2018 Location: Sembawang. These awnings shade the room windows. And the characteristic is that they are almost always installed on at the west facing side. Do not be deceived if you are house hunting and the owners switch on the air conditioning in the afternoon. This is a clear indication of an afternoon sun-facing unit.

In this photo, stacks/units on the left face morning sun. Thus one do not see any of the metallic sunshades as found in units on the right. It was late afternoon and one can confirm the afternoon sun shining at the afternoon sun units on the right:- This 30 years old block of flats (see below) at Simei also has sun-shades. But less obvious because they are made entire of RC material as shown, here:- This is how the whole block looks: These flats are close to the Changi Simei Community Club:

Staff Cecil Lee Posted July 5 Author Staff Share Posted July 5 I wanted to buy a condo unit but noticed that the main door is facing west and the bedroom windows are facing east. Is there an issue with feng shui as most people are looking for a north facing main door. Hi [hidden], Often a unit especially bedroom windows facing say West means that for most layouts the bedrooms, living room get "direct afternoon sun". In this instance, this home with windows facing east also gets much direct morning sun especially on sunny days from 8 plus am towards often till 12 or even 1pm. Thus for the earlier part of the day, can be quite hot. Fortunately, night time is Okay for this unit. This is why most prefer a North to South facing. Thus often NO DIRECT afternoon sun. Also from a Feng Shui point of view, such as Main door facing West or windows facing East falls under the category = Frontage. And as one can see, it only accounts for 10% out of a total of 100 marks:-
