Dear Master Cecil

We are renovating my HDB four room flat which we have stayed in for more than 10 years. Recently the contractor came, measure everywhere and ask me how deep I want the cabinets to be. Can I ask if there are any auspicious numbers or numbers I should avoid in general? for eg he said shoe cabinet, actually anything from 37 to 40 is ok. But since that will determine the depth of cabinet for the whole wall, I just want to do it corrects…

The other side, it will be 25-30cm, again is there any auspicious or inauspicious numbers to avoid?

regarding the lying of vinyl tiles, I read from you earlier it should be parallel to the doorway, but if it is parallel to kitchen and master bedroom it will be at 90 degrees to the two other bedrooms. What will be the logical fengshui way to do it then?

thank you very much and I hope you will be able to answer my questions!

1. Based on the Feng Shui ruler so happens that 40cm is an auspicious width. Plus the right size to allow for most locals feet / shoes to be placed comfortably into the cubicle of a shoe cabinet.

2. The best consideration is to place the vinyl tiles parallel with the front door (first) - Given that this is the most used area and or the most visible of the house. Thus no choice if this leads to it at a 90 degrees with the other two bedrooms.

Thank you Master Cecil! Really appreciate your reply, really thanks!

if you don’t mind, can I further clarify, after I posted yesterday, I read your article on fengshui ruler, so as long as the depth of all cabinets shallow and deep are within the auspicious numbers, it is ok right?

1. My current living room has no built in cabinets at all, to have more storage space, we are going to build whole wall storage on both side of the long wall (living room is rectangular). Can I check if it is ok to extend the storage to above the doorway (one doorway leading to kitchen,  the other doorway leading to bedrooms corridor. Does not affect front door) and above the sofa seating area?

2. For vinyl, if we are only going to lay it in the living room, living room will be slightly higher than the rest of the house, is that ok?

🙏 😊

1. Sometimes the sharp corner of the cabinet can be a poison arrow aimed towards the front door.

2. Since it is an overlay, it would be slightly higher depending also on the thickness of the vinyl. As be extra careful and touch-wood (tripping) over this level.
