Hi Cecil
My husband and I are dog sign and had kua number 3.
(1) A feng shui teacher told us that our main door is facing north but when I used my compass to measure, it show north-west , slightly to north. So how to identify is north or north west?
(2) I saw from one of website that north is a bad direction for this year ,is it true? I find that once the dragon year come, our finance had big problem. Is it becos of the facing north direction or becos of dragon year is not good for dog sign people?
If in any of the case , any suggestion to improve our finance?
Thanks

Dear Anon,
To find out how to get a proper compass reading, please go refer to this page:
http://www.geomancy.net/fs/cecilcompass.htm
The above material with animated gif should help you to properly determine the direction of your main door using an ordinary compass.

Do try to determine the direction of the main door first.
As there are many levels of Feng Shui analysis, if you are facing problems, you may consider using the more powerful Flying Star analysis to check if the house is in balance.
Warmest Regards,
Cecil

Hi Cecil
From the animated diagram, one should stand in the centre of the house facing out the main door.
All the while, I thought is standing at the main door facing out. So there is a difference between the two method.
My main door is actually what is shown in the animated diagram, so I must stand in the middle of the house facing out main door direction just like the anminated man, right?

Yes, one should stand at the centre-point of the house facing the main door to take a reading.

No, based on all readings used for inputs in this website we use the method as mentioned under the link
http://www.geomancy.net/fs/cecilcompass.htm

Yes, this is the method used here.
---- On a different subject ---
If one uses the Luopan, a different method is adopted.
But as mentioned in a few messages, most readers can easily get hold an ordinary compass thus, this is the principal method, used in this website.
Since we are using the ordinary compass, all the `information' and instructions on how to read, and input the figures in this site are based on this `method'.
If you follow other methods, please follow the particular author's method, TOTALLY, from start to end.
Warmest Regards,
Cecil
