Hi Cecil,
I read some articles from a fengshui shop somewhere near Sim Lim, that ancestor's tablet are not suppose to be placed together
with any deities, at the same altar. Is that so? and it said that it can only be placed in the kitchen, where in the past, that's where the backdoor is.
Any advise?
Thanks
Warmest Regards

Dear Anon,

1. One method to address this situation is to position the ancestor tablet to the left of the table when facing the altar, ensuring that the table is slightly lower than the deity located on the right.

2. Historically, some individuals have constructed a niche directly above the refrigerator to accommodate their ancestor tablet.

Warmest Regards,
Cecil

This link illustrates the appearance of the combination of ancestor and altar.

It features a traditional altar setup.

1. This configuration typically features a Deity, such as the Goddess of Mercy, alongside an ancestor tablet. The distinctiveness of this altar lies in the positioning; when facing the altar, the Deity is always placed on the right side, with the altar surface elevated in that area. Conversely, the ancestor tablet is positioned on the left and at a slightly lower height.

2. The standard height for an altar ranges from 125 cm to 128 cm, with a recommendation of 125 cm if a glass surface is to be included. The width can vary based on individual requirements, falling between 18 cm to 23 cm, 40 cm to 43 cm, or 59.5 cm to 69 cm. Length options include 41 cm to 43 cm, 59.5 cm to 69 cm, as well as 71 cm, 89 cm, 107 cm, or 148 cm.

3. When purchasing a commercially available altar, it is generally unnecessary to be overly concerned, as most pre-made altar cabinets are designed to meet appropriate dimensions. Therefore, one can simply select and utilize a suitable option.
