Dear cecil,
Why the air is so polluted in the Hong Kong and Taiwan and Singapore since feng shui is so prevalent in these countries and main rule of the feng shui is the clear water and air. So why the basic rule of the feng shui is not followed here. Thanks.

Dear Anon,
1. In Singapore and Malaysia (which are close neigbhours), majority of the time the air is clean.
On the government intervention:
Most of the industries are highly regulated to ensure that they do not pollute the air or waterways.
In Malaysia, `pollution' is isolated to factories or industrial areas.
Malaysia is one of the largest rubber producers and if one smell latex before, it is pretty smelly. But the smell is confined to within a small radius within the factory or warehouse.
2. For Malaysia and Singapore, unfortunately because the two countries are close to its neighbour Indonesia, Indonesia is considered the biggest culprit.
Its farmers do `slash and burn' prior to cultivation and sometimes, the fire gets out of control.
It is because of the many cases of the `slash and burn' that such air pollution is blown to Singapore and Malaysia.
The situation was very bad last year and the year before. But today, the PSI or index for measuring it is only very little and non-critical.
3. The worst country so far is Thailand. Because of the massive traffic build up, and traffic jams, the air in the city is polluted.
4. Taiwan can be considered relatively clear unless houses are close to industry production centre.
5. For Hong Kong, it is partially due to the traffic pollution and more importantly, the waterways are dirty as there are many `boat people' or people living on boats.
Warmest Regards,
Cecil
