Hi,
I need to know if the bagua directions are appropriate for the southern hemisphere or if some adjustments should be made. For example, in the northern hemisphere, the south side of the home is the hottest one, thus is appropriate for the FIRE direction. Here in the southern hemisphere, the opposite is true, with the north being the hot side of the home and the south being cool and shady.
This being the case, would it be appropriate to reverse the directions? Are there any 'rules' which would apply? Should the areas be switched around? ie wealth to the nw rather than the se? All this is terribly confusing!
I have only one book which makes any reference to this (Feng Shui for Australians) in which the author, Gerry Heaton, suggests using the direction of the front door as a starting point, ignoring the compass completely, and relying on intuition from there on! Not very helpful as the compass is an integral part of Feng Shui.
I really hope to get some informed advise on this, as I would hate to go to all the trouble of applying FS to my home only to find later that I'd done it all backwards!

Dear Clancy,
I have a link to several sites concerning the subject of the Southern
Hemisphere.
The url is: http://www.geomancy.net/fs/addsites.htm
=========================== Extracted from the above webpage
==========================
1. Can Feng Shui be applied to the Southern Hemisphere without
modifications?
The general consensus is that there is NO need to modify for the
Southern Hemisphere! Do read
on....
a. Master Joseph Yu of astro-fengshui.com says "Yes. There is no
need to modify
the conventional technique".
c. Ray Harris shares the same view that there is no need to
modify the
conventional technique
His views (from the above article) are as follows:-
The 'Southern' School can be regarded as false for the following
reasons.
1. The climate argument does not apply to all climates of a given
hemisphere.
2. The seasonal associations of the Ba Gua are only coincidental
for temperate
zones in the Northern Hemisphere. They must therefore be regarded
as
incidental and not primary associations.
3. The altered Ba Gua places Li in the position of magnetic and
celestial north,
which is directly contrary to their traditional meaning.
4. The traditional associations remain valid when considered
globally.
5. The 'Southern' School contains logical absurdities.
6. No conclusive proof has been offered to validate the different
'Southern'
theories. They therefore remain mere hearsay.
7. The advocates of the 'Southern' School have not provided a
consensus
system. Each advocate has their own variation, some of which
seriously
contradict each other.
d. Ray Harris article 2 is an excerpt of his correspondence with
Lindy Baxter with
his point-by-point rebuttal over the `flawed' Southern Hemisphere
model.
After you have read his second article 2, Ray Harris states that
he and Master Yu
does not agree with the views given by the two of the major
proponents of the
Southern Hemisphere School. (Lindy Baxter and Roger Green).
========================================================================
Please check out the above link.
Personally, I also do not believe that there is a need to `cater' to the
Southern Hemisphere.
Warmest Regards,
Cecil

Hi,
this is quite interesting because i hired a new zealand feng shui practitioner, and he applied feng shui in our home the to southern hempisphere school.
does this mean the feng shui is applied wrong and i should reapply it to the traditional method?
-thanks.

Dear Daniel,
It is good to read up the link which I had provided in the earlier message.
In my personal opinion, in quite alot cases that I have come across, particularly in Australia, where there is a huge following on Feng Shui, particularly the compass school of Feng Shui such as the Eight House and Flying Star has been applied with great effect without any changes. There are also many who apply Feng Shui without modifications in South America e.g. Brazil.
It is best that you read up the link I provided and if you are still in doubt, you should ask the practioner in New Zealand to `justify' on what basis they say that a particular model has to be changed.
If they are unable to provide you with a good reason or it cannot be backed by `academic' or scientific proof, you should take the advice with a pinch of salt.
I strongly believe that it is the onus of the person who set their `rules' or advice should ultimately justify for their actions.
If not, Feng Shui (modified for the Southern Hemisphere) can be considered a "sales gimmick". And one can consider that it is "frawn" upon by Traditional Feng Shui practioners in the Far East, Hong Kong and Taiwan. The key word here is *Where is the proof?* to convince us.
Warmest Regards,
Cecil

Dear Daniel,
1. If I am not mistaken, this is the reverse of the Eight Associations or Life Aspirations Concept.
2. Even if one reverses this model, it is not going to do anyone good or bad.
3. The rationale is because this is a Fixed Template Feng Shui. It is about the Eight Gua directions and placing a meaning to it.
4. I have given quite alot of examples why it will not work.
4.1. Imagine (even if is is based on the unchanged Feng Shui template):
This senario:
If South-West is the romance sector, and say the three of us (guys) are eyeing a colleague in the office. If the three of us start to enhance the SW sector (in your case the North West sector) which of us can in the end marry the girl?
Is it the one who has enhanced our NW sector most. For example, I place 3 roses on that sector on my work table, you place 12 roses on your table, will you get the `girl'?
Worse still, none of us get her! Someone else, not in our office get the girl.
Imagine if the entire population does that? What are the odds like?
This Feng Shui is to Traditional Feng Shui practioners especially in the East such as Hong Kong, Taiwan and the Far East, will in my opinion, say that this is only `kindergarden' Feng Shui or Feng Shui for the kiddies.
If one is relying on the above, one is better off relying on ones own instincts.
Contrast this to even the Eight House Theory. This theory at least is personalised to the Year of Birth of the person.
If you have the time, read more of `geniune' cures or enhancements and you will understand why the kidnergarden Feng Shui will not work.
Warmest Regards,
Cecil

Daniel
Your reply indicates that this guy did not do Flying Star , which is the most potent form of Feng Shui.
As Cecil said, what he did for you is kindergarten stuff. Please do not think we are trying to make you feel bad......it is just that there are so many so called practitioners out there that give Feng Shui the reputation of being "hocus pocus" which it is not.
BTW, do you mind telling us how much he charged you for this consultation ?
As Cecil has said, Eight House is based only on YOUR date of birth....specifically for you. Eight House too is an accurate form of FS if done correctly.

..REALLY.. i never knew such thing as kindergarten feng shui. worse yet, i paid $250.00 out of my own hard working pocket to get this house examined.
maybe that's why i'm wondering why hasn't anything wonderful happen to me yet..
i'm born in 1982, i live with my family, if i applied feng shui using the method in geomancy.net, how do i apply feng shui which will benifit everybody? because not everybody is a north or west person etc..
also, in front of my front door it is blanked off with a wall, but the entrance to the front door/porch is through the eastside.
the entrance into the property (the drive way) is in the northwest. most people can't see the front door.. how can i remedy this without busting or building..?
-thanks alot!

Daniel.....I am shocked thatyou paid so much to a "wanna be" practitioner. Mind you, you were not to know.
A client of of mine consulted a FS consultant over here earlier this year. She gave my client an account once the work was completed. The terms said "Payment within 7 days, otherwise unforseen problems may arise". I was absolutely disgusted.
Unfortunately, there is no governing body over here who can discipline such a person.
Now Daniel, if you wish, and if you are patient, I can help you (no charge) if you mail me privately. I am currently assisting a Forum member from Melbourne design his house...it is much fun and hopefully, the house when built will be an auspicious one for him.
Best wishes
Glyn

Units categorized as Good, Bad, and Ugly.

1. Keep in mind that while a geomancer may deem this development favorable, the quality of a unit also relies on its specific location within the development.

image.png.6a1342ebc3532d44bbe3fafe3ab28a79.png

2. Is your potential unit under the Good, the Bad or the Ugly?

3. Consider this scenario: the unit resembles a dilapidated 1,000 cc car that has seen better days. Not even a skilled Feng Shui Master could transform it into a desirable unit!

3.1. By the way, (above) this falls under Habit Number 11.

4. Under Habit 1, one possibility is by ranking one's bedroom type by stack/unit: 1st choice, 2nd choice etc...
