Susan
Hi CecilMy question is about Gargoyles. I have hear that to place them at the entrance of a building or path leading into a building is suppose to ward of bad luck or negative energy. I have not read anything about them in reference to Feng Shui. I have read they were a mythical character first created for roof top corners and were used as water sprouts to direct rain away from buildings, their name coming from a similar french word for "spout" or "throat".Do they have any significants in regard to Feng Shui? and if so where would they be best placed? Would they resemble the Dragon or Lion? Thank you
Staff Cecil Lee Posted August 6, 2000 Staff Share Posted August 6, 2000 Dear Susan,In Chinese culture, many traditional buildings have e.g. lions guarding themain entrance or other `fierce' creatures placed e.g. on a building. Thus, in my opinion, the "Gargoyles" that you had mentioned, served asimilar purpose in some `western' buildings. For the Chinese, it is quite common to find a pair of dragons or a dragon"guarding" each side of the roof. However, this is usually found on templeroofs only. Most homes do not use such figurines. In Feng Shui, if it is a `public' building e.g. Chinese Chamber of CommerceBuilding or other public buildings that has a traditional touch, wouldusually place two lions on each side of the main entrance.Warmest Regards,Cecil----- Original Message -----From: "free-advice Listmanager" To: Sent: Friday, August 04, 2000 5:47 AMSubject: Gargoyles, placed at the entrance Quote From: "Susan Ogden" Hi CecilMy question is about Gargoyles.
