Hello
The master bedroom is the NW sector of the second floor of this house. It is panelled in pine boards halfway up the walls. The effect is quite pleasant and the whole room is very comfortable and pleasant, nicely decorated. I sleep very well in there.
However, since NW is metal element, is the wood panelling in this room harming "mentor luck" for this home? To make matters worse, part of the NW sector on the main floor is a toilet (small, pleasant room).
What can I do to encourage helpful mentors in my life? At this time, I need some help with some projects for the house, rather than career luck. This help has been promised, but is slow to materialize.

Dear Miss Quiss,
Frankly, I have clicked a few times on your question.
I was trying very hard to see how I could approach to `answer' your question but each time when I things like `mento luck'; career luck etc...
It is very difficult to relate this to Traditional Feng Shui which does not associate a room with `mentor.'
With regards to your assumption that NW is the metal element sector. Generally, this sector is the metal element sector but may be too simplistic a statement to use.
This is because, if one uses the Flying Star analysis; because of the interaction of the #mountain / #water and base # and the time period i.e. Period 7, this sector may not necessary be all metal element.
It depends on the interaction of all three elements. The wood panelling may aid or further create more problems.. depending on the three elements as mentioned above.
Warmest Regards,
Cecil

Dear Cecil
Thank you for your kind reply.
This is all very frustrating. I read so much about FS, trying to cut through the New Age nonsense and stay with the basics, but even then I find out I'm way out in left field.
Frankly, I'm ready to close the book on Feng Shui and not give it another thought.
From your reply, I would think that unless I set out to become an expert at traditional Feng Shui and learn about Flying Stars and all sorts of things I will have no other options but to spend a lot of money every year and hire someone to do this for me.
If these stars change all the time, should one constantly change furniture, sleeping positions, rooms, walls, fences, roads, houses, rivers, roads, just to stay reasonably successful?
Why do some people have good luck all the time? Why do some people have bad luck all the time? Surely sometimes your luck is good, sometimes not if these stars keep bouncing from one place to another, causing trouble.
Why do people even bother printing all these books and putting up all these web sites when, in the end, no one is sure about anything happening in any part of one's house unless one pays a consultant (who isn't likely to agree with any other consultant)?
I'm sorry for sounding frustrated but I most certainly am at this point. There doesn't seem to be any straight-forward way for the average person to create good Feng Shui.
Would it not be good enough to simply create a home that is pleasant, airy, bright and harmonious and leave it at that?

Actually, the problem here lies here in that you associated the wood finishing or funiture directly to thwe NW sector.
And also assumed that since NW sector is Metal it destroy Wood.
Also, you are refering to Mentor Luck which belongs to the Eight Associate Directions.
All these are very static theories and usually in Feng Shui we put very low priority in such problems.
By fixing such "low" priority issues, it will not bring leaps and bounds of improvement to your life. And that is why it is materializing slowly.
What Cecil has tried to point out to you is that Flying Star theory is the one which you need to focus on to help you change influence more quickly as it is usually the interaction of these stars which are usually creating problems for you.
Often, in Feng Shui you will only enjoy leaps and bounce when you fix up all the problem areas affecting you. For example, if you know that a sector in your home is not so good, you should correct it, by correcting a problem sector, it reduces the inauspicious impact on you.
In this way, it makes you more auspicious. So the way to apply Feng Shui is not simply just to take very generalised issues and hope that they will turn around. It is identifying problems areas and fixing them.
Only by doing so will you find your luck much better.

Actually, that is not necessary, what we are simply pointing out to you is the use of the correct theories for the correct analysis of whether certain is good or bad for you.
You can get use the free flying star analysis to help you determine if there are problem sectors in your home.

No, that is not true. The stars does changes constantly, but more importantly that is why in the website we normally do a Flying Star for the 20-year period which the house is in. This is because the 20-year period problems usually affect the people staying that all the time.
The yearly stars, monthly stars etc also change every day, but these affects mostly the that year or month or day only. That is why in life there are always some Ups and Downs. There is NO SMOOTH sailing scenario for even the most lucky person. He will bound to feel a little ups and downs.
But what is important here is to fix up the 20-year period which affects you in the longer period of time. These will reduce the influence even if an unlucky star comes into the year or month.
Also, usually we do and cure up to the yearly star as a limit, as do make changes every month or day is ridiculars.
So often when a Flying Star is done once for the house so that you can fix the problems found and enhance good areas. No further assessment is actually needed until you make a major renovation to the house which alters the period of the house.

Quote
Why do some people have good
luck all the time?
Why do some people have bad luck all the
time?
When refering to a person's luck, this involves usually the Pillars of Destiny of a person.

If you find that 90% of your luck period for each 10-year period is falling under your auspicious element, this is like travelling through a time which belongs to your favourable element. So generally, you will seem to be extremely lucky.
On the other hand, if you find that 90% of your luck period for each 10-year period is falling under your inauspicious element, you will feel extremely unlucky. As no matter what you do you will always find obstacles.
This is why there are those very lucky person who happens to be always with luck on their side. And luck can be in the form of favourable elements which help you along the way.
But no matter what, whether a person is lucky or unlucky, there are still ups and downs as there are always changes in luck every day. So you cannot expect smooth sailing for a lucky person, and for a bad sailing for an unlucky person.

luck is good, sometimes not if
these stars keep bouncing from

Yes, that is always the case.

average person to create good
Feng Shui.

Actually, the problem here does lies with many authors putting up generalised theories and using it to advise everyone. This is bad, as without some personalised Feng Shui assessment, you will not be able to help a person. Instead it will cause more harm than good.
Just imagine, that just because say the Flying Star of a sector (south) is star 5, and that means an inauspicious sector. If the author simply assumes this and tells everyone that they must put up this cure etc, this is bad. Coz, yes although star 5 is bad, but it also depends on how it interacts with the rest of the 20-year.
It is also just as bad to say that say south-west is marriage sector and you must put a this cure etc to enhance it.
These are generalised statements and usually should not be followed.
Instead, what we try to do is to provide all the personalised tools available on the website so that users can at least know their personal element (eg. wood etc), some knowledge about their house good or bad and also favourable elements.
Actually with many of the information from the website, you will be able to improve and enhance your home in a wide variety of ways:-
eg. knowing your birth element = wood
You will know that favourable elements to you are water (blue, black, gray), wood (green/brown). You can use these to enhance yourself already by having personal object being these favourable elements, paint your home in these colours, get a job which is your favourable elements, a house which suits you etc.
These helps you answer your final question on creating a home that is pleasant. As you are creating harmony.
Actually for Feng Shui, what you need to really bother is your home and your personal self.
- Remove any poison arrows which from areas around you and in the house etc.
- Have a home which is suitable to you, and fix any problem sectors in the house.
- Locate a bedroom which is good for you and sleep in that sector.
- Enhance yourself by following your favourable colours which are favourable to you.
Once you accomplish these, actually in regards to other things such things about the house where to place this and that, what kind of furniture to get, etc. All these can be left to you so long as you feel comfortable with it.
Feng Shui contains many topics and theories, knowing which one to use which is how you get the best out of it. More importantly it is to help you find out problems that might affect you and how to fix it.
If you can do that, there shouldn't be much worry at all at other areas.
Hope that helps:)
Warmest Regards
Robert Lee

Dear Miss Quiss,
1. I can understand your frustration in wanting to learn so much of FS and applying it.
2. Generally, many of us do not really need FS. In fact, my people, have been very (very) successful without ever calling in a FS practitioner.
3. What you have mentioned with regards to Traditional FS may not be totally true.
4. This is because, Traditional FS is not ONLY about Flying Stars and how these stars fly.
There are other aspects of Traditional FS such as Shapes and Form, which we read about and can apply to our home.
Here, Shapes and Form is used to analyse a home especially as a defense posture i.e. threats to the main entrance or living room.
5. In my opinion, many successful people, have very good homes (excellent Shapes and Forms) and prosper. And many people simply fall in love with their homes; and concentrate on their careers... Are doing much finer than those who, `worry' this or that.
Therefore, to say that Traditional FS rely only on flying stars is not exactly correct.
6. In many of messages, I mentioned, FS is all about trying to increase `LUCK'.
There are many forms or types of `LUCK'. And, within FS, there are various techniques and weightage ... which may help increase or bring down luck.
7. In Traditional FS, the chief forms of `LUCK' is:
7.1 Shapes and Form
7.2 Flying Star
7.3 Eight House
7.4 Correlation to Pillars of Destiny
I have elaborated in the past that if one has excellent Shapes and Form for the home, the weightage of LUCK could be in the factor (especially EXCELLENT Shapes and Form) can bring the LUCK already to 60 to 70 percent of the overall LUCK for the home.
Any additional increase, we want to do, can only bring in a marginal return of less than 40 to 50 percent more than the above.
8. One can still buy books particulary explaining the `Shapes and Form Feng Shui' but in my opinion, other books, may not be effective as it is not personalised to a person.
9. Books that ask us to enhance i.e. sectors i.e. mentor luck, career luck etc... may not be that effective... Many of these have hidden agendas such as making one buy material goods which is more or less decorative items and nothing magical about it.
Warmest Regards,
Cecil

Dear All,
Here are some questions which we can use as a guideline:-
1. How useful is Shapes and Form Feng Shui?
We can make use of Shapes and Form Feng Shui to review our home with regards to the strengths and weakness / threats to our home.
If we are choosing a new home, and take full advantage of Shapes and Form FS, we may get a Quantum Leap in Feng Shui LUCK.
(This area is worth understanding). But do remember that it is easy to understand but difficult to apply in some instances.
2. Go on the Defensive...
Even if a house is considered an EXCELLENT house (by virtue of its EXCELLENT Shapes and Form), this does not mean that such a house does not have a `defect'.
The rule: Protect, protect and protect.
Stand at the middle of the main entrance looking out and each window in the home.
If there is a poison arrow aimed into i.e. the main entrance or window, try to neutralise it.
3. I am currently staying in this present house and WANTS to become an instant MILLIONAIRE...
Advice: Go buy a Lottery ticket instead...
If your personal LUCK is good... perhaps one can strike rich.
But if one feels that FS is the means to becoming a millionaire, one may be disillusioned.
4. My family members are constantly sick or get into a misfortune (e.g. accident).
Preferably, seek professional FS advise instead.
5. I have invested heavily in a new home and want to have peace of mind after I moved in.
Preferably, seek professional FS advice.
6. My company is in the .dot com business. I face financial problems.
Hey!; So does every other .dot com companies especially if they are not a brick and mortar company.
For business within the same segment or sector ie. .dot coms, Feng Shui is not the answer! Look elsewhere for finance.
7. In the past, in one of the messages under Wish List, I mentioned that it is only time that Yahoo.com will one day.... get into trouble. Especially when they ran out of money or guilble investors to keep on investing into a blackhole.
In my opinion, they are now trying to see if they can get into any viable business (perhaps brick and mortar).
8. Some of us have problems and some turn to religion i.e. some quietly visit a temple or church. Some turn to Feng Shui?
9. Food for thought: If it ain't broken, don't get burnt and try to `fix it'.
Warmest Regards,
Cecil
