Dear Cecil & all,
I am very new to feng shui, and I am trying to research. But I am stuck very early on:I'm also assuming that the straight path west from the front door to the bathroom is not advisable. Will a partition or screen or even a large tall piece of furniture like an armoire be enough to redirect the qi?
Thanks, Tina

Dear Tina,
A warm welcome to you:)
1. Under Compass School Feng Shui; (especially Flying Star Feng Shui) one can either take readings based on the building or an individual apartment like your house.
2. However, under the Eight House Theory or East/West Group of persons; usually the orientation is taken from the centre-point of your individual apartment to the main entrance door.
3. You can view this url:-
http://www.geomancy.net/resources/art/art-cecilcompass.htm
to confirm how to take compass readings from the centre-point of your individual unit.
4. Please note that the above method(s) are based on the use of an ordinary compass.
5. In Feng Shui, if one knows how to use the Chinese Luopan; the readings is based on the `sitting' position and facing (frontage) of the house. As you have mentioned, it could be the main entrance or the location where the windows at the frontage are. But usually, this is done (best) by a competent FS practitioner. If you are using method (Para 5).
6. Otherwise, you should follow the advice mentioned under Para 3 (above).

7. Yes, it is considered inauspicious for the main entrance door to face the bathroom. Yes you can place a partition or screen. The screen need not necessarily be of full height.
If you place a tall piece of furniture, it should be as tall as the height of the toilet door. Lower than that is not advisable.
Warmest Regards,
Cecil

orientation of my apartment
based on the entry door to my
apartment unit, and some say
to base it on the way the
majority of windows are facing
(which in my case corresponds
to the main entry to the
building). I have a three
foot wide door facing north
into a courtyard, and 13 feet
wide space of windows facing
south (and 2 feet window
facing west). All the foot
traffic is on the south side.
So, am I in a Li House, or Kan
house.

Cecil,
thanks for the info, "the main entrance" to the building I was talking about is actually a large arch through to the courtyard. I think I may need to consult a professional, but how do you find a competant one? I know there are more than one school, but what questions should I ask? The books I have mention that they should ask for the age of the building, and time that I was born, but none that I've contacted so far list that as something that they need. Are there any credentials to look for? None have given me straight answer on the base cost of a reading or what & how they will charge (even by hour or square foot) via E-mail, and I am hearing impaired. As I am on a disability income, I do not have money to throw away on someone who doesn't know what they are doing. They also seem more interested in selling feng shui "props" than doing a reading. I'm assuming therefore, that they are not fully on the competent side:Would your paid reports or consultations take into accounts the complexities of an apartment?

Dear Tina,
Thank you for sharing with us your information.
Yes, especially for those in US, it is always prudent to check the credentials of any "FS practitioner" first.
As you have mentioned, by asking a few questions; one can have a feel of the person at the other end.
I understand that you are on disability income. If you are able to take personal reading e.g. from the centre-point to the main entrance; we would most certainly be glad to provide you the necessary Free credits i.e. Free "paid reports". To help you.
Actually most of our paid reports were specificially written for our own professional audit use. And, we feel that it is similar to us being present to do the actual audit. Other than the visual cues of Shapes and Form and taking the necessary compass readings. Because of the high costs of internet charges such as ISP hosting and bandwidth charges, we had to make them paid reports to help defray mainly the hosting costs.
Anyway, please e-mail us directly at support@geomancy.net so that we can credit you the necessary FREE paid reports for you to begin analysing your home.
We are always around if you should have any clarifications with regards to these or any other reports especially via this Free Advise forum. Or to clarify any Shapes and Forms Feng Shui specific to your home.
Warmest Regards,
Cecil
