Dear Cindy,
1. In my opinion, unless one does a reno to relocate the bedroom door, there is not much one can do unless the bedroom door is closed when not in use.
2. The rationale is because, it is not feasible to place a partition or screen between the bedroom door and the staircase.
3. An alternative is to place a screen or e.g. a 4 drawer linen cabinet between the door and the bedroom.
4. Before doing anything drastic above; in my opinion, I find a bedroom door facing the stairs - not a `big' issue i.e there is relatively not much - if any impact on those living in the bedroom.
So far, I have not come across much problems with regards to this issue for most people.
5. However, most of the issue or concern is with the front door opening half way to e.g. half of the stairs.
If it is feasible, then a screen (need not be of full height) should be there to screen the stairs from the front door (if possible).
If not, the next best alternative is to place a potted plant at the bottom of the stairs to reduce the sha qi.
Another option is to use e.g. beaded blinds. This is not that common today. But the whole idea is if it cannot be seen, it no longer becomes a threat.
My concern is more of the `problem' related to the staircase visible at the front door. This has more problems than the one faced with the staircase facing the bedroom door.
Warmest Regards,
Cecil
