myfs_79578
Hi CecilMy husband and I have just bought a house on a block of land with a slope at the back. The land is large with the house situated at the front. The last few feet of land fall away at the back into a large valley. The other side of the valley are hills that are a little higher than our house. Is this an inauspicious piece of land as the last small section falls away or is that counteracted but the hills being higher beyond the valley? or what can we do to help with the effects of this slope. We have rounded hills either side of us a little higher than the house and smaller than the ones beyond the valley. The house faces south and is number 126.We looked at many houses and this one "felt" very right for us although was not exactly what we were looking for but close to what we wanted.Any advise would be greatly appreciated.ThanksSusan
Staff Cecil Lee Posted March 5, 2002 Staff Share Posted March 5, 2002 Dear Susan,Each house has to be looked at on a case-by-case basis. It depends on the distance of the house e.g. back of the house to the drop off point. And the gradient of this drop off point or slope.Overall, a large land has some advantages. Especially if the back is `spacious' or better off situation. In such a senario, if the proper `fencing' or ability to create a solid backing can be done, this can be acceptable. Therefore, no two houses are the same. It is best in most situations to create a `solid backing' at the back of the house and if possible avoid water positions.Warmest Regards,Cecil Quote On 3/5/2002 12:06:00 PM, Anonymous wrote:Hi CecilMy husband and I have justbought a house on a block ofland with a slope at the back. The land is large with thehouse situated at the front. The last few feet of land fallaway at the back into a largevalley.
