dear robert and cecil,
Why everything in the feng shui revolves around the main door of the house and office.
Why is it important that nothing bad should be facing the bedroom door. And why these doors are given more importance compared to
other doors of the house. Please comment.
Thanks.

This is because the main door of the office or the house is considered as the the heart of the house. It is where you get in and out of the house, so the qi which we are considered is very important to be associated with the main door.
If bad qi (sha qi) is present in that sector, it means that sha qi would be circulating in the house, otherwise if good qi is present, the house will have good qi present.
This is the reason why the main door has to be good:)

It is not the bedroom door, but the sector the bedroom is located.
If you noticed that everyone spends about 8 hours or more out of 24 hours a day in the bedroom when you are at home, otherwise it is spent at the office right?

So, this is already a lot of time that you are located in that room. So if you stay in a room with lots of sha qi, it is likely that you will meet with misfortune. Thus, it is very important, after the main door to have a good room.

What direction do I face when determining which direction my door faces as
my main door of the house? Am I standing outside of my house looking at my
door to figure it out. Here is my example, If I stand outside of my house
looking at the door that I use most often, the door is facing south because
I am facing south. If I am standing inside my home looking at my door it is
facing north because I am facing north. Which is it?

Normally you should stand in the center of the house out of the main door.
However, if you do that sometimes, there is some magnetic field which shifts
your compass needle a bit. Which is why, sometimes a reading from the
outside is needed to confirm that the compass is not affected by the
building structure.
However, if you use a shielded compass, then this would not matter. Please
check Cecil's compass method. This is quite accurate and easy. This
elminates many of the problems of the standing outside.
