Hi Mr Cecil Lee
My house faces South and bedroom is in the South East sector. Many years ago, a feng shui master adviced my mum that we should sleep with head facing the West (ie feet facing the East). However, per the free report on my best sleeping position, this is considered the Death direction! It stated that it would be better for me to reverse the sleeping position.
2 questions that puzzle me:
1) Why is it that the advice given by different feng shui masters can be so varied?
2) Why is the direction faced based on the head and not feet?
Thank you.
Regards

Dear Judy,
1. The clue here is to look at the human make-up:
"We have our head and feet."
2. One simple example is, when most of us sleep we sleep in a `near' horizontal position. Here, all humans have a head. And our actual head should face the best direction.
3. Our feet should point to the opposite direction.
4. Ambulance Evacuation and the taboo:
To give another example:
Even for Chinese; who are very sick; recently, I encountered an experienced ambulance attendant who has advised family members of the sick that whenever; an emergency evacuation is made; "head, first".
5. When lying down, often, we want our head to be the `first' to be closer to the auspicioius direction; rather than the feet closest to this auspicous direction.
6. The "coffin position"
It is inauspicious to have the legs face the bedroom door.
Here, again, the taboo is our legs - considered as being inauspicious.
7. Another simple example is the parents and a baby child.
8. Many parents especially Chinese avoid placing a baby cot at their feet. Not because, these Chinese may have smelly feet but rather: it is symbolic of `throwing' one's child at one's feet.
9. There is a difference between sitting down on a chair working on a table. Here, we should have our feet on the ground. And, qi or air flows to our face.
10. There is one school of thought in Feng Shui as you had mentioned; that says feet first. But here, imagine if we do not cover our feet or spouse feet with blanket. The first qi or air that is likely to flow to us is from `feet' (down) or up to our face.
Warmest Regards,
Cecil
