Dear Eng Soon,

Generally, often it is best to purchase ready made altars.

Most of the time, these altars are made according to Feng Shui measurements.

If you have a Feng Shui ruler, most of the time, good altars have both measurements for both Yang (living) and Yin (dead) Feng Shui ruler measurements that match good auspicious measurements within these two zones.

Thus, generally, good altar measurements range between:-

15 inches to 17 inches

16 to 27.5 inches

34 to 35.5 inches

41.5 to 23 inches

49.5 to 50.5 inches

57 to 58.5 inches

Any of the above can be used for either the Width, Height, Length or Breath of an altar.

But of course, if you purchase a ready made altar, majority of them if they had been done correctly should be within the range of good altar measurements which often falls within any of the above measurements.

For the altar, do remember not to hang up a piece of glass or granite or marble piece. Since, if this breaks, the entire altar may come crashing down.

But however, it is perfectly OK to cut a piece of glass to place it on an altar table top to allow for easy cleaning.

In addition, it is very inauspicious to place the altar sharing the same wall as the toilet bowl. Or if one lives in a landed property, the altar must not be below a toilet area (of the 2nd storey).

Warmest Regards,
Cecil
