Hi! I am about to move in to a basement apartment on a farm, which is at the back of the house. Approaching the apartment, you have to enter through a screen/stormdoor and down a short brick hallway, then on the right side is the formal door to the apartment. Should I consider the outside screen door the entrance and therefore align the bagua to that, or should I use the formal door that actually leads into the apartment? And if the formal door is the entrance, can I use a bagua mirror there or is it dangerous because it is not fully outside? Can I use the bagua mirror at the screen door even if it is not the entrance and mouth of chi to the home?

Thank you so much for any and all suggestions!

Very Happy Jennifer

Dear Jennifer,

Since the basement apartment is at the back of the home. What is the view like from this back of the house?

Most likely, the facing direction of your apartment is either facing the front of the house (if it is blocked by it) then most likely it could be the back as the facing direction.

Or, in your basement apartment, are there windows? In particular, if there is a window in the apartment and it has a very nice view, then, this could instead be the facing direction.

In my opinion, the most misunderstood issue on the bagua mirror is that one should not simply place it. As mentioned by many western Feng Shui sites or Feng Shui shops.

Many of the western Feng Shui sites think that placing a ba gua mirror or (in actual fact) I believe the motive, is to sell as many ba gua mirrors without due regard to the actual purpose of placing it.

For the Chinese, there are two main purpose of placing a ba gua mirror:-

1. To ward off -evil
2. To deflect sha qi (convex mirror) or "absorb" (concave mirror) a missing corner.

Warmest Regards,
Cecil
