I have a fireplace in the southwest corner of my living room (the wealth and prosperity bagua of the room). It is made of light-colored brownish-red brick. I painted the mantel red about ten days ago and have lost all kinds of money every since then. What can I do?

Hi Barbara
Your problem looks like what could be a classic example of Feng Shui =that has been done in a very generalised manner as advised by many books =that are on the market today.
Under the Flying Star theory you may have inadvertently activated an =inauspicious star that is in this particular section of your residence. =One has to be very careful when simply applying the BaGua without taking =the other Feng Shui theories into account.
I see such problems from time to time with my clients.
Cecil or Robert will be able to advise you further. They have many =excellent tools on this website that can help you address your problem.

Dear Barbara,
As Glyn mentioned, sometimes it is quite dangerous to apply " general " Feng Shui concepts.
On the surface, as the fireplace represents the fire element, adding a colour like red will increase the `fire' element. It is like pouring `petrol' to fuel the fire.
It is best sometimes not even knowing a `little' about Feng Shui.
Usually under " general " FS concept, it is best to neutralise `fire' with the earth element.
Can you return the colour to the original as soon as possible.
Warmest Regards,
Cecil

Another thing to consider, if you intend to use the fireplace, the heat will probably destroy the paint!

I would rather not change the color. I like the dramatic effect it has on the room. So far I have done two things; I changed the painting above the mantel to one with boats on a lake with mainly blue tones and touches of yellow, and I put a plant that trails from the mantel to the floor in a blue pot. My money situation neutralized immediately.
I was considering putting a mirror above the mantel and a piece of brass at the top of the opening to keep smoke from pouring into the room (a problem I've had in the past). These are strictly esthetic changes. I would like my money situation to improve even more. Any other suggestions?
