Dear Peck Wun,
Yes, it is preferred that an altar does not face the main entrance. Here, it is considered disrespectful as you are asking guan yin to guard your door for you.
If you can, (if possible) although the altar can be located facing the main door, where possible, try to see if guan yin be facing towards a wall instead of directly, facing the main door.
Avoid, tilting guan yin but as mentioned above, see if you can allow her to face e.g the wall next to the main entrance. Or alternatively, change the location (if possible)
