Dear Jen,
In general, a ba gua or ba gua mirror should not be used inside a home. It is used facing out of a home.
Try to check out a set of resources that I had posted last year under Photo Tours of Interest (with pictures).
Under this link one can find the various types of Ba Gua mirror(s).
Some have a Kirin figure, while some have a set of door gods on it.
In many of such instances, the Ba Gua mirror is used for two reasons:
1. to ward-off evil and or
2. to neutralise sha qi e.g. facing a T junction.

Some mirrors have concave, while others have convex or even flat mirrors. Under the above resource, I had covered some of this information.
However, if it is meant to be used to ward-off evil, then; here it does not men that it will block off positive energy.
Therefore, there is no right or wrong answers to this question.
