Usually, if your house is `born' or built under Period 7 ( 1984 onwards ) if I am not mistaken, based on the Base element of the Flying Star, West is suppose to be a `Very Auspicious sector'.
Unless, the Mountain and Water stars are `bad' stars, then there may be an imbalance.
Are you looking at Flying Star Analysis on a total basis or just the Base star, Mountain and Water.
It is best to relate the Base star, with the Mountain and Water star.

In my opinion, unless the book comes from the same author and even so, both the first book you read must relate with the second book.
If one follows too many different concepts, may face problems or non-uniform `cures'.
As the information provided is piecemeal, and not sure on what it is based on, I an unable to comment further on it.

Overall, based on the situation you mentioned,in my opinion, it would do no `harm' to use the wooden windchime. Usually, one has to be more careful especially if one uses a metallic wind chime.
Alternatively, two potted plants on each side of the back door would be acceptable. Or a semi-circular mat, radiating outwards of the backdoor is equally acceptable.

Overall, what is more important is to neutralise any poison arrows aimed at the main entrance or through windows. As for whether which door to use, is of secondary priority unless, it is the death/disaster sector of the Eight House.
But normally, even if it is, the door can still be used and kept closed when not in use.

When you install light post, you should also bear in mind that it does not inadvertently `slice' into the house e.g. especially if it is the windows.
A simple test is to stand at the window, facing outside. If the lamp post slices into the house, this is a `poison arrow'.

Do check the location she spents most time at. If you are using the Flying Star, check where is the #2 and #5.

If you have posted it in the forum, I would have answered it unless I have missed it.
Warmest Regards,
