Dear Anon,

To help you understand better, I have drawn a sketch of two layouts which are considered good staircase layout plans.

There are more, but these two are, in my opinion, the most common ones:)

Two sample layouts: Layout A and B of auspicious location of a staircase.

The advantage of staircase: Layout A is that if one can imagine, a storeroom can be built below the stairs.

Secondly, there is a private corridor to go upstairs.
